Reading some of these passages, I think these are the most comforting to me, as I am new at this, I haven't read the whole bible......
For those of you more educated at this then I, feel free to post what your favorite quotes are...

This is pretty comforting to me so far, these are from revelations...

1: And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2: In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3: And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
4: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
5: And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
6: And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
7: Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Not a "real" holy quote, but one I like.

Goes something like this:

"...and as I walked through the valley of darkness, I knew I shall not fear no evil, as I was the meanest mother#er in the valley..."

not a religious person but this is one of my fave bible quotes:

The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.

from Psalm 23, too lazy to write the whole thing out. sorry

i look at it this way;

the lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

meaning, god is my protector, no matter how hard it gets, i will still survive and find ways to make ends meet.

I don't think it is literal...just as the rest of the bible. It doesn't mean I will never have a need or want. Just that when i do need or want, the lord will provide in one way or another.

btw, remember i am not a christian, nor do I consider the bible the only holy book, but this psalm has been in my memory for as long as I can remember.

It's just weird that it sounds as if the author is being sarcastic....

"that lord is my sheppard" I shall "not" want.......

I can't get over that.. I know what you mean, but my brain doesn't get it...

The following lines in the Bible changed my life. And reading I hope you see why(its out of Luke 23:39 - ...):

And there was also a superscription written over him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
And one of those robbers who were hanged blasphemed him, saying: If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
But the other answering, rebuked him, saying: Neither dost thou fear God, seeing; thou art under the same condemnation?
And we indeed justly: for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man hath done no evil.
And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom.
And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee: This day thou shalt be with me in paradise.

May God grant thee peace

Since Qur'an is a Holy Book too, here is my fav:

" Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who believes in God, and believes in the Last Day, and leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve. " Qur'an, 2:62

These are quotes from the Hvaml, the words of Odin.

Cattle die, kindred die,
Every man is mortal:
But the good name never dies
Of one who has done well

Cherish those near you, never be
The first to break with a friend:
Care eats him who can no longer
Open his heart to another.

Mock not the traveller met On the road,
Nor maliciously laugh at the guest:
Scoff not at guests nor to the gate chase them,
But relieve the lonely and wretched,

It is safe to tell a secret to one,
Risky to tell it to two,
To tell it to three is thoughtless folly,
Everyone else will know.

An ill tempered, unhappy man
Ridicules all he hears,
Makes fun of others, refusing always
To see the faults in himself

The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom
While he sits by his hearth at home.
Quickly finds when questioned by others .
That he knows nothing at all.
