This may only be inspiring if you work in a soul crushing cube farm like I do, but this always makes me feel better

I was there today! Man I wanted to take my printer out and go Office Space on it. Freaking piece of crap just up and decided to start printing in wingdings for no apparent reason. The nice thing was that I only had one opportunity to print what I was printing. So it totally burned me.

Take 5 Karl! The poor thing clearly had a sense of humour. And then you go and vent on it like that. It wouldn't surprise me if half your printers spend most of their time in the fetal position. Man, you need therapy.

Question: What do you get when you fill a call center full of Irish hot heads?
Answer: Psychopathic Printer Psychosis (or PPP)

The both of you are clearly in need of a little rehab. How about some 'meet the victims'-type community service?

Who says you can't dance without an arm or leg? Nice video of a couple who lost a limb in accidents but still manage to dance.

Magnificent. It stands on its own for sheer beauty.

Inspiring to see people rise so high above adversity.

MArvellously distracting, amusing and uplifting, thank you all and thanks P4T for the initiative (and invite)

These may not be terribly uplifting but something I discovered recently called lolcats - I'm probably way behind the times but they have creased me up with laughter - I think its the language, anyway here are a couple of favourites of these I have discovered so far, the second is my absolute favourite!!!

Hi there. I daren't ask what your screen-name means - I get this sense of ominous foreboding even thinking about it. It doesn't mean you're a member of some dire secret society of grave-snatchers does it?

:-) and LOL

en.wikipedia.org...

let me know if you still get a feeling of foreboding - hope this doesn't disappoint you

secret society of grave-snatchers - now I kinda wish that's exactly what it meant

... And you've caught me out: I too got sucked into watching the impromptu 'Who does it best?' competition, accompanied by hugely partisan comments at the bottom of each video. There's something inherently mesmerizing about it.

I couldn't help myself - first - it is mesmerizing

then - got really hooked on the earnest approach to guitar combat - too cool

I had to leave before I finished - there was so much there

maybe I'll go back now...

thanks again for this thread - I found this right after I read a thread on whale slaughter

you may have saved my life :-)

ah - but I've had this one stuck in my head before

must be something about it

nice

and much better than Mares Eat Oats and Lambs Eat Oats...which gloms on to my brain regularly for no apparent reason

unless there is a reason :-)

A quick poem from my mind.

When you get down look around and you'll find
That your pain is in vain it's just a state of mind
There's death and meth and abuse everywhere
You're not alone so don't moan and don't despair

You're still alive so take five and put on a smile
It could be worse like a curse so relax awhile
Life isn't easy or cheesy there's so much more
Like trials and miles of learning all the chores

So when life gets rough and tough stand up tall
Take a chance and a glance of others who fall
Then fight to make it right with all of your heart
Make your move, find your grove and restart

Don't give in, look within and come back strong
Find out who you are in the stars, find your song
Look around, don't frown, it never helps the soul
Do your best with your test and reach your goal

Clicked on that link. Relieved to hear you're not quite as evil as I feared.

Nevertheless what was displayed demonstrated perfectly how maths is a philistine art. Take something beautiful beyond words and reduce it to a mish-mash of esoteric gobbledygook. And what do you get? -An 'equation'.

Not that I'd ever say anything controversial...

(And please, nobody tell any mathematicians about the guitar contest. They'll probably come back and explain it away with a formula for rivalry.)

Sir, you are a gentleman. Thank you for injecting a note of reflective sobriety.

(Something distinctly lacking for some last night. Ahem)

Inspirational. And worth a few reads.

Here's something a friend sent to a friend (a relative actually) as a New Year's greeting:

Whether your life is prolonged or short

I'll make no secret of saying

If the pain of others is not become yours

Your life has been lived in vain.

I had to translate from the Russian, which reduces the literary strength, but, I trust, not the beauty or profundity of the thought.

it is beautiful - and it belongs to nature

nobody is ever going to change that

New Years resolutions are not something I usually make - but this year I resolve to be far less serious

Is Your Jar Full?

When things in your life seem almost to much to handle, when 24 hours in a
day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar......and the beer.

A Professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front
of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and
empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then
asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the Professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas
between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was
full. They agreed it was.

The Professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of
course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar
was full. The students responded with an unanimous "Yes."

The Professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and
poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty
space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the Professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your
health, your friends, your favorite passions - things that if everything
else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house,
your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first", he continued, "there is no room
for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all
your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the
things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are
critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get
medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There
will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal. Take care of
the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand."

When he had finished, there was a profound silence. Then one of the
students raised her hand and with a puzzled expression, inquired what the
beer represented.

The Professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no
matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of
beers."

I'm pretty sure you could base an entire thread on that - wish you would

good catch - if I'm seeing what you're seeing

Yeah, now that I'm not sailing with "Captain Morgan Spiced Rum " it does sound a bit strange. I actually just wanted to say that life is hard but don't give in to giving up. I know a child that has cancer and is going through radiation treatments that are painful and it brings tears to my eyes to know this, but when you speak to her you would never know that she's going through it.

And Accessed Denied: I love that Mayonnaise Jar! It's so true in life.

God bless her. Those of us who are enjoying good health have a lot to be thankful for.

One of my friend's children actually pulled through leukemia when he was about 5 (after years of suffering and treatment). A terribly traumatic time for all involved. So sorry to hear about the little girl.

I totally agree. (My second comment above that looks like a reply to spira was actually a reply to AD - I suppose the error was pretty obvious.)

Just to finish, here's a clip for all table tennis fans:
