And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. (Revelation 14:1-5 NIV) The Bible says: Women defile Men Ok, well this has bugged me for a while and I just wonder what it means? Do we interpret it in a literal sense? How do we interpret it? It isn't a nice thing to read at all? This is definitely degrading to women... edit to include: Even if their argument about Revelation 14:4 is true (which is not) , then this is still insulting for all women, because the Bible chose to substitute the naming of "Babylon's prostitutes" to "women", making it sound like the majority of women, if not all women, are defiling to men. Since the verse clearly and irrefutably says: "those who did not defile themselves with women", this means (1) No females will be among those men; and (2) Women are defiling to men. same reference above The more I read the more angrier I get. The whole bible is so anti-women. pffft When I read the skeptics annotated bible, I felt angry but this article and discussion of possible interpretations makes me furious. If you read Revelation, you see in chapter 17 the Great Whore. She also has daughters! It's about religious whoredom; Not defiled with women In the Bible, there are times when it's appropriate to abstain from sex with your husband, when fasting. Women ARE NOT INFERIOR to men...

If they had eaten from the 'Tree of Life', we would've been immortal and untaintable! But,....alas! Also, God didn't make polygamy; What does God say? The most righteous king of Israel, David, had more than one wife. This disobeyed the direct command from God for kings not to multiply wives in Deuteronomy 17:17. David already had wives, and then took another, Uriah the Hittite’s wife, as his own after having Uriah killed. Because of this action, God said “the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife” (2 Samuel 12:9-12). Mr. Armstrong wrote, “This was a tremendous, super sin. God was meting out tremendous superpunishment” (ibid.). Later, David’s wives were defiled publicly except for Bathsheba. David was only saved from death because of his incredibly repentant attitude. I used to be a vehement feminist and God showed me He loves women as much as men, BEFORE I would even accept Him as Lord.

Its talking about the act of sex causing a person to become defiled, not that women specifically are the cause of that defilement. Many religions hold those who maintain chastity in high regard, certainly not just Judaism/Christianity. For example you had to be a virgin to be a Roman Priestess of Vesta, a tradition that Rome later incorporated into Nuns. Besides this, the 144,000 quote from the bible is probably one of the most mistranslated bible passages ever. The 144,000 are specifically virgin, Jewish, male, Christian converts, who are considered the “First fruits” of God because of their purity, and become the Temple Priests in Heaven. They are not the only people that in fact go to heaven. Others, such as non-Jewish Christians fall under this verse: Rev 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. Rev 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. Rev 7:5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Rev 7:6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. I heard the gospel on a Sunday morning with a hangover,(That's why I didn't feel like getting up and turning the T.V. to another channel and I couldn't find the remote.) I heard that just 'doing the best I could' wasn't enough and began to be scared for my life as I overdosed A lot. I asked God, "If you love me as much as a man, show me and THEN I'll accept you." I opened the Bible and there it was! How can you reject scripture or ignore the degradation of women in the bible and continue with the faith? Humans have degraded women. Women have degraded women! Now, it's not even ADMIRABLE that I stay at home with my three children, instead of having some big career! I love being a mother and wife! Not a big deal to many people! I have thrown so many bibles out and I go out and buy another one, well I am throwing it out and I will not buy another one, ever again. If you want the Truth, don't. All that's left is a lie. It is just so terrible... People can be terrible. Women aren't pretty, they don't MATTER to many. Women don't act like people want them to, they don't matter. That's going to be that way until Jesus comes back and sets up HIs Kingdom! Jesus appreciates women who have backbone and don't compromise on righteousness! Deborah, Ruth, Sarah, Esther, Abigail, many others! I'm not perfect, but one day, I will be!

I mean the whole book is filled with such degredation and venom towards women and then a colleague of mine is homosexual and detests women... I saw the parallel... either way, it is hurtful. I get angry about it, but it is just hurtful to read this stuf.

Considering that the first book in the bible is one of the newest, and pretty much amounts to someone having a vision, could be the same as Blossom Goodchild channeling. Oh, but it was a woman hater no doubt. And they burnt new mothers at the stake who had the adacity to ask for painkillers in labor in historical times in Scotland. Murdering woman for God!!!!! And just image what a better and wonderful world we would live in if the Bible was never written at all. I think you are all getting carried away with this. The Bible was written by men, for men, in a time that women were treated as second class citizens. We still see it today in primitive tribes around the world. It is an instinctive behaviour in less sophisticated minds - to put down anyone, or anything that is not as strong or smart as you. In fact, even in modern society we see examples of this aberrant behaviour - take rednecks living in trailer parks as a point in reference hehehehe So relax, take a deep breath – woman are no better or worse then men – and vice versa. We are both animals of earth that have evolved specifically to procreate our species.

My step-dad was brought up with children should be seen and not heard and we were all girls in the house. Guys treated me like a piece of meat for their use! I even had one who 'spanked' me for leaving the kitchen light on. I never saw him again! I had guys who wanted polygamy and/or free sex. I've been married for almost 14 years now. Jesus has been with me for 15 years and shown me that; Proverbs 18:24 A man [that hath] friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother. When it says 'man' in the Bible, sometimes that means ALL humans. Peace to you.

I was sexually abused as a child by a man = created in Gods image and likeness = obey and submit yourselves to the man = women are whores etc so yes, you are correct in your assertion. But, it wasn't until I was older that I actually read the adult version of the bible and I was absolutely heartbroken. I previously only owned a children's bible that was censored. I was just so shocked at what I read. The story of Lot in the kid's bible left out certain bits etc...every story - yanno, it's like watching the movie Bambi where Bambi doesn't die. Then I read the skeptic's bible... I was crushed and I have had big issues with it ever since. Anyway, thanks for expanding. I value it. I am signing off now cos off work for 2 days, so have a wonderful holiday break with your family... cheers

There are many examples of this in the New Testament. Like it or not, the Bible may have been Inspired by God, but it was written by men who lived in a period where there was much more discrimination. Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. The whole concept that the marriage relationship is the same as the relationship between Christ and his church is used heavily throughout the bible. You will also notice that the relationship between God the father and Israel is also related back to the marriage relationship, and when they would cheat on God with Idols, they are likened to Harlots.

The bible was written to create confusion. It is not a book of absolute truth. It was written to divide mankind. GOD is not a "HE" True God is LOVE. True love can not be vengeful. Therefore the God written of in the bible is not the true God. Darkness rules the earth and the devil is a tool of darkness.
