TORONTO - With an American promise of massive aid for General Motors and Chrysler, Canada could be on the hook for a $4-billion-plus rescue package of its own, with the possibility of tens of billions of additional federal and provincial dollars down the road.

The federal and Ontario governments promised last week to match one-fifth of any U.S. bailout, in proportion with Canada's share of North American auto production.

Detroit thanks you Canada!

That seems like a nice gesture coming from our neighbors the Canadian government.

But my beef in the matter is that if GM has been having troubles for decades they are not going to fix decades of trouble in a few months.

I guess either they have been lying for years or they are going to end up deceiving the American tax payer and now (Canadian) as well.

As long as you realize it's not an altruistic gesture, marg. Canada has a vested interest in Detroit.

But vested interest is a better reason than altruism anyway. Altruism requires victims, whereas vested interest is working for one's self interest.

JS you know that that is "exactly" how corporate America works and also how governments in power works also.
