Wow and I thought my old teachers were bad for giving me a lunchtime detention.
Pays to not go to school in Egypt.

I'm old enough to remember the punishment, when I went to school in the late 60's and up through the 70's. There were 3 different kinds of punisments, all depending on the mood and which teacher, and the kinds of trouble I'd made.

The first one was okay. I would have to stand facing one corner of the classroom. Sometimes a hole hour, would last this way. God forbid if I moved.

The second punishment, would result in being escorted out of the classroom. There I would usually get a verbal warning, and then placed right outside the door. Sometimes a slap or two, was thrown in my face for good measure. Then told to stay in the same position. Not being allowed to move from that spot or even sit down. One could try, but believe me, that wasn't worth it.

The third punishment, would usually take place right then and there in the classroom. Infront of all the classmates, I would receive anywhere from 1 to 3 slaps in the face. Once I got a pretty deep cut on my chin, from a teachers gold ring. Regardless of how big an ass kicking I received, I would never tell at home. I was sure I would receive another fist in my face.

I didn't grow up in some 3.rd world country, but in Denmark. Anyway, at the end of the 70's, this kind of "hitting" behaviour was no longer an option, and became outlaw'd. I'm sure this new policy, didn't sit well with some of the older teachers.

Well I glad that I dropped out of regular school, and started in the merchant marines at 15 years of age. The best thing Ive ever done...

Peace

I remember quite well the punishment rec'd in the public school I went to. Teachers were allowed to use paddles. Some teachers would get creative with their paddles and drill holes in them. Lots of kids had those holes imprinted on their butts. They would grab hold of your belt loops and let that sucker fly. It was a very common practice and I rec'd more than enough swats to keep them in my memory. In fact, I think there is a photo in my year book of a kid getting a swat.

I don't ever recall any kid getting seriously hurt by a few swats. You can't do that these days. That Egyptian teacher must have really lost it and went nuts on that kid. What a shame.
