Brady's .50 cal page
Just saw this while searching for ammo.
"SELLING HIGH POWERED MILITARY WEAPONS IN THE SUBURBS
The Threat of .50 Caliber Armor-Piecing Sniper Rifles
In 1987, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc., patented its self-described "armor-penetrating" .50 caliber BMG sniper rifle. Capable of destroying
armored personnel carriers, aircraft and bulk fuel and ammunition sites, the .50 caliber sniper rifle is now proliferating in the civilian market.
Accurate at up to 2,000 yards (20 football fields end-to-end) it can inflict effective damage to targets over four miles away. With more power on
impact then any other semi-automatic rifle legally available on the civilian market, the .50 caliber represents a serious threat to our local law
enforcement and national security(emphasis mine)."
"Terrorist and Criminal Use of .50 Caliber Sniper Rifles
According, to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), the .50 caliber sniper rifle has a dangerous history of criminal misuse. This can
only worsen as the weapon becomes cheaper and more readily available. BATF has linked .50 caliber BMG sniper rifles to drug dealers, international
drug cartels, militia and terrorist groups and a religious cult. Additionally, a 1999 report by the General Accounting Office, "Criminal Activity
Associated with .50 Caliber Semiautomatic Rifles," stated that of 27 traces involving the Barrett M82A1 (one of the most popular .50 caliber rifles
on the market) 18 (66%) were associated with criminal activity.[13]
As part of its investigation for the Committee on Government Reform, GAO investigators traced .50 caliber sniper rifles seized from crime suspects and
found that many of the weapons were discovered in what they described as "the scene of some extremely troubling criminal activities"[11] including
international terrorism and foreign drug cartels. GAO investigators concluded that, "the accessibility of these weapons in the United States is
becoming known worldwide."[11] The following summarizes a few cases in which .50 caliber sniper rifles have been identified.
Drug dealers in California, Missouri and Indiana were in possession of .50 caliber sniper rifles that were recovered by state police authorities using
search warrants.[13]
An international drug cartel in Mexico was discovered with a .50 caliber sniper rifle and 100 AK47s at the scene of a multiple homicide shootout. The
Los Angeles Police Department assisted Mexican authorities in tracing the .50 caliber sniper rifle to a gun dealer in Wyoming.[13]
Three members of the radical North American Militia arrested in a plot to bomb federal office buildings, destroy highways, utilities and public roads,
and assassinate the state's governor, senior U.S. Senator, federal judges and other federal officials had a .50 caliber sniper rifle in their
possession. All were ultimately convicted.[14]
A member of the radical Mountaineer Militia in West Virginia was arrested by federal agents in a plot to bomb an FBI office. A search of the
suspect's home recovered a .50 caliber sniper rifle.[13]
Seven suspects with two .50 caliber sniper rifles were arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard in the Caribbean in a plot to assassinate Fidel Castro by
using the .50 caliber sniper rifles to shoot down his plane off the coast of Venezuela.[11 & 13]
Canadian officials found a .50 caliber sniper rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition for it, along with explosives, at a remote site. A Texas militia
group was suspected of running an illegal training camp.[14]"
etc. etc.
Lots of examples of posession, not many of these rifles actually being USED for anything.
Several of the examples are of crap going on in foreign countries, in areas where the populace is already at war with TPTB or themselves (Mexico,
Northern Ireland). WTF does this have to do with our RKBA?

They've been after the .50's for some time now.
Because at $3,000 per rifle and about $10/bullet every drunk under a bridge is running around town firing them haphazardly
Certainly for consistencies sake the reasons the Brady Bunch use for banning the .50's would apply to virtually any rifle cartridge.
Why ban the .50BMG and not .300 Mag, 338 lap, .308, .30-06, even .243 and there's plenty more numbers I can ramble off.
The Bradys are idealistic tards at best and self-interested disarmament agency for TPTB at worst. As are the loons who blindly follow them.
Look at eh crime maps on their own site. They admit and flaunt the fact that the areas with more gun control are ravaged by violent crime. That tells
me they are sadistic, evil bastards.

Will the new administration push this? I see alot of the scary buzzwords used in the article, "radical militia", "drug cartels", "illegal
training camps(a la Al Qaeda)". Wanna bet it won't be long before there is a high profile killing with one of these weapons, to incite the public
outrage?

LOL excellent point about the crime maps, wonder if people really are not putting 2 an 2 together on this fact?
I have not seen any MSM coverage on anything Brady in a long time, but that could be due to non-stop election BS for the past several months.
Any idea if the Brady bunch is a viable threat anymore to RKBA?
Just have a feeling there will be a false flag op of some kind after inauguration, and then suddenly they will be " the guiding light" in the
darkness that is sheepledom.
Then it most certainly will be open season on gun owners of ALL breeds.

Joe Biden was the author of the 1992 AWB. Obama has been pushing to ban all semi-autos, individual posession (meaning your guns would be stored at a
"certified" location, and a 500% ammo tax among other things for years now. Eric Holder has been anti-gun as long as I can remember. He wrote a big
op-ed about how because of 911 nobody should have a gun that isnt police or military.
You're a little late to the game if you dont know whether or not this administration will be gunning for your guns (pun intended) but I can forgive
that as long as you know now.
The .50's are an easy target for them because not very many people own them and even hunters who use comparable rifles such as 7mm mags would most
likely be indifferent to a ban on .50's. Those who hunt with .50 cal muzzle loaders though might have a proble. There is a difference between .50BMG
and a .50cal ball but I doubt any legislation would be so specific. They had a hard enough time trying to ban AR-15's in 1992 with funny language.
Remember, Obama came out last week and said we should stop panic buying rifles and ammo because he says we have nothing to worry about.
And Hitler said the Jews would be allowed to exist peacefully once in the ghettos.
Dont give an inch. They'll grab than inch, salivate and masturbate on it, then come back for a mile.

"Additionally, International Defense Review estimates that the round is "probably capable of disabling a man wearing body armor who is standing
behind the wall of a house at 2,000 meters."[3] "
How the hell am I supposed to know someone is standing behind a wall 1/2 mile away?
I have not studied Brady's website, but if it is all as sensationalized as this, we need to start our own site, picking it apart page by page and
point by point.

Definitely agree on inches versus miles, the incremental erosions of our rights most likely add up to far more than the sudden blows, a la '92
AWB.
A pinch here, a slice there, "socialism, naaaahhhh". After the .50 cal, it will be back to "gettin that magazine down to 5 rounds."

Upon reflection, I think that Obama pushing it as a "non-issue" makes my hackles raise even more.
Just wondering now if we will see a straightforward, up-front attack like '92 AWB or if the tactics will be more slimey and subversive.
A series of episodes like DC sniper and the wanna be skinhead assassins, of the false flag flavor, to soften up the population. I put nothing past a
bunch of lawyer politicians.
Imagine Obama and Biden doing a good cop/bad cop routine after something like this happened, and how many sheeple would be lapping it up.

As an owner of a Barrett 82A1, I would be more than happy to give in to the demands of the Brady retards.
I would give them my .50 BMG the moment it was required.
661 grains at a time for each and every member of that braindead group.

The problem with the Brady people is that they are as dumb. So they can have all the legal .50 cal guns but they are so stupid they don't think
that criminals don't care about the law, they will still own .50 cal guns... Politicians think that just because they write a law it makes it so,
but they forgot to tell the rest of the world... The real problem we have today is this country is run by people who come from the bottom of the
bucket in terms of intelligence and it's getting to the point they are destroying the world's economy and soon the world. God was correct when he
said the meek shall inherit the earth, these idiots will be the only ones standing in their own pile here soon.. To bad they will also be destroyed
by their own stupidity.

I would never advocate implied violence in any manner, against mislead, braindead, progressosocially liberofascistic, retards.
We have "special schools" where they would be happy with their coloring books and lincoln logs.

I guess I could support something like that instead.
I would add one minor change though: Surround that school with a few hungry lions and put it on Pay Per View.

Just saw that Brady's has a whole page dedicated to debunking Dr. John Lott. Half of the links don't work, so can't really get at the source of
their claims. But most of them look to be from liberal dreamland institutions anyhow.
Anyone have more information on this situation?

Sometimes I want to believe that the liberofascist types are just "the children of the 60's" who never grew out of it. There are plenty that did
grow out of it and went on to become outstanding leaders, and just damn good people in general.
But then you have the unrepentant, all or nothing types like "we didn't do enough" Bill Ayers.
The worst part about that is I feel he finally got his inroad to the real revolution. He is training the teachers who will indoctrinate your
children!

You've got to love the Brady Bunch (maximum sarcasm). Their mis/disinformation campaign has to be one of the strongest out there. Their statistics
are ALWAYS presented in an unscientific manner. They consider "children" to be people of ages 0-20, and forget that criminals create crime. What's
sad is Brady logic spreads like wildfire among people who have never even handled a firearm where I live. Downright emberrasing.
Maybe the Brady campaign can go after banning silverware for making people fat when they get this campaign wrapped up.

This isn't new, they've been on this trip for years.
Because as we all know, there are so many crimes committed with these weapons.
After all, what's better for street crime than an utterly unconcealable rifle that weighs around 30lbs?

Sorry to detract from OP's topic but WOW! When are politicians and disarmament groups going to realize the desire to comit cromes lies w/in the
perpetrator? Oh my... Clearly weapon control does not fix how a society treats one another!
