First you need to eliminate any natural reason.
Have you recently:
changed or started any medication.
been taken ill.
been under a lot of stress or depression.
changed shift or job.
moved your bedroom furniture round or redecorated.
been working with solvents or paints.
changed diet dramatically or started eating or drinking something different and frequently.
changed quilt, added covers, new bed, etc.
changed bedroom.
changed lighting (if you have lighting in the room).
been a lot more active than normal during the day.
playing sports (yes i have often jolted myself asleep thinking im saving a goal).
entered into or changed relationship or recently separated.
or indeed are you feeling pressure with Christmas (presuming you celebrate it).
The number of things that can cause abnormal sleep behaviour is huge and it can be something not expected and overlooked.
Im no professional sleep expert but years of sleep problems have made me very aware of the things that can make the difference between an
uncomfortable sleep and no sleep.

I would highly suggest that you keep a running journal...daily! Weather or not you have a experience. You be very surprised by even writing down
dreams and events that happen to you over time. Some dreams of mine have come true over the years. Most were just confirmations of what was happening
in the dream.

for the OP:
honestly, I'd first check for just basic physical symptoms. have someone watch you sleep, or record yourself and see if you stop breathing. That's
sleep apnea, and it'll jolt a person awake in no time if its a bad bout of it.
Some other signs: waking up tired, sore back when you wake up, waking up on occasion feeling like you're gagging, etc.

Robotically, just curious, but what is your blood type? any history of thyroid problems in your family?
Also, as some one said earlier, do get some desert sage and smudge it in your room before your sleep; not only does it have a pleasant aroma, but

and it does seem to help me to calm down and then sleep when this happens.

Yeah sorry for the wait on the response to your "blood type" question. I am proudly Type O Neg. Thanks for asking, and where were you going with
that, please enlighten me if you would be so kind. Thanks bud.
Oh and to answer your other question, no there is no history of thyroid problems in my family, that I know of anyway. Ill ask around. Peace

Clear, bro, its easier said than done. Still working on the significant other part, I just find it so difficult to converse with my perspective ideal
girlfriend. Most of them just aren't interested in the things I am. Not that I am not open minded, I'm just looking for someone who is "like
minded" understand? I have dated many times, they all seemed great for a while until the honeymoon period ended and the novelty tattered and torn. I
wont blabber on about my emotional and intimate shortcomings. I will just say I agree with you and if you have that ideal women then I congratulate
you. Yes I would imagine that it would be a bit easier to sleep then. lol Thanks

I think the blood type question might have to do with "iron content... may be certain blood types contain or hold more iron? Couple that with a
ridiculous magnetic field going bonkers, and who knows what you'd get.
I have had nights like this myself. Last night in particular. I went to bed, started to go to sleep, and I honestly saw a bright light in front of
my eyelids. not a "bright light in my eyes", but one that was EXTERNAL. I of course woke up, and realized I was looking at the couch. BTW- the couch
is feather down. COMFY. I wear earplugs at night to keep out external sounds... And also keep my butt from being influenced. Found out when I sleep
with friends (not sexually), They can talk, and if I don't have earplugs in, I will answer, do things, ect. I was not a happy camper when I found
out- especially the next morning.. So tired, I couldn't see straight, cranky...
Anyways- past couple months have been broken up sleep- sometimes, I just wake up. Sometimes, I wake up like I was recharged in a wall socket. I
have had the 'falling' sensation dream every so often... But what makes this truly odd is how the cat has been. He's taken to sleeping on my chest,
on my neck, he wraps his paws around me, and only slips off when I either change position, or when he's sure I finally have hit that sleepy point.
And I do mean SLIP. He tries so very hard not to wake me... it's like he's protecting me from something. As for the light, it isn't the first time,
I have seen a light in that part of the house at night when the lights go out. Usually, tho- it's outside. It reminds me of that stupid sphere I saw
one night, years ago. *shudder* Also, when I have the earplugs in, I hear music, people talking, ect. And this when the original idea was to keep
sound OUT. not In.
A little history about my sleeping habits. A year or so ago, I was in a situation where I literally had to sleep with one eye open at all times. I
had to watch my back, my front, and 9 acres of land to boot. I had PETA all over my pimply butt 24/7, up to and including a helicopter flyover! Once I
was able to get out of that situation, and got myself into something a lot less stressful, I was ok. Then this crap started. I'd say it was me going
bonkers, but the cat's affected. Then again, that poor animal's been thru it all and back, too. 3 moves, almost got eaten by a pitbull, ended up
sharing a house with other cats (He had never SEEN another cat, I think), and now where he's at now. But he's never acted quite like this- I'd
figure he'd be making a fort on the refrigerator, hissing at me, not protecting me. Oh... Random thing.. a few months ago, I had a... vision? It
wasn't a dream in any normal sense, even tho I was sleeping. It was of me walking to a bathroom, wearing a towel ( I don't, no gutter minds,
please). I looked in the mirror- and my eyes were brown (they're hazel), I had a LOT more hair, and my skin was browner. ( I am as white as they
come). I looked at this weird mirror image, screamed- and the voice that came out wasn't even mine! This whole sequence lasted no more than 10-15
seconds. I was conscious of time passing, light in the room, it was 100% realistic. Only problem was the fact while I was still essentially me....
Well, for lack of any better term- I was looking at an alternate me. A real, actual alternate universe/ parallel Universe ME.
Then I read about other people going thru similar....

My wife always goes to bed and reads for about an hour or so, whilst I'm still downstairs getting caught up on emails and of course the latest posts
on this site. On Wednesday night she had just got comfortable on her left side, opened her book and had just started to read, when she felt old Joey
our English Springer Spaniel, jump up onto the bed and with his usual snort, flopped down with his back snug up against my against wife's back.
This was his routine for almost 16 years until late spring of this year, we had to call our vet in to put the old fellah down at the age of 17 years
and 6 weeks. Even though I had trained Joey for the field, the rest of the time he was like my wife's shadow. At first she thought it was our
Malamute, although he has never snuggled up to her. It was when my wife reached behind her to give him a scratch that she discovered she was the only
one on the bed and in fact the other dog wasn't even in the room and the door was still closed. She knew then it had to have been Joey, and upon
turning back onto her left side to carry on reading, again felt him flop down and let out his usual snort, followed by a sigh of contentment. This
time she just carried on reading and eventually fell asleep, still feeling old Joey's back against her own. This isn't the first time we've had a
visit from him. About a week ago as I was on the computer, with our Beagle at her usual spot under my desk and the Malamute out in the living room
sleeping on one of the couches, I felt a dog press against my left leg. I automatically reached down without looking to give the dog a scratch, and
again nothing there. We've had several visits from Joey over the course of the summer, and are more than happy to have him stop in any time he wants.
When the vet came to the house and was giving Joey the needle, my wife and I were kneeling on the floor beside him as he lay on his bed, and licking
my wife's hand as we were both scratching him. We both had tears just streaming down our faces as I said to my wife that this must be how it feels to
lose a child. Nine days later our 22 years old son was killed, and we're hoping he is with Joey when he comes for his visits, though so far we
haven't had any sign that he is.

With the alternate universe me thing- that's all there was to it. I had taken a short nap, and this was as clear as day, and a definite departure
from my usual dreams. Usually, I don't dream much if at all when I do a nap. What's really odd is still how clear it is memory wise. Like it
actually happened.
Only other thing of note is- when I leaned forward, I felt myself doing so. I felt every action I did. And I didn't wake up- I suddenly was
conscious. Like a sudden cut in a movie- I was standing there screaming at the mirror, and suddenly, I was lying on the couch staring at the computer.
There was no waking up, that usual dry mouth, I gotta go to the bathroom, stretch, yawn, ect routine. I know I laid down for a nap. I know I did fall
asleep... But then..... I noticed later in the news that CERN managed to break itself during tests, and they shut it down. So, they had done a test
when I went for a snooze. Or it had finished before I did. Not sure which. I am wondering if I will have any more 'episodes' if they crank it back
up. And if I do, who the heck would believe me? I'll be labeled nuttier than a peanut factory. Guess it'll be time to keep a diary. Maybe I'll get
lucky, get yanked thru, and have a fun, wonderful life where I managed to do everything I wanted to.
BTW- I laid open a Bible on an old piano where I am living. last night was the FIRST full good night's sleep I have had in.... ummm.... forever?

I'm an over the road truck driver (all 48 states) and for the last few months I have been awakened from not only the cusp of sleep but also a deep
sleep by what sounds like explosions in my head, the first few times I would get up and look around the truck and see if anything had happened but
nothing had...so now all I have been doing is if it starts happening (it dont happen every night but it does most nights) is roll over and go back to
sleep or take a couple sleeping pills so I do get some sleep before the next day of driving.

While I do believe sleeping problems have been with humans since the dawn of man, I also believe other people realize that as well. That being said,
people know something is going on, some kind of warning system , its like my mind is saying "How can you be sleeping when this is about to
happen!??"
Its like the feeling you get when you unexpectedly start to doze off at the wheel, now I know everyone here is too perfect to have ever done something
so irresponsible. I am just being honest with myself and you all, it feels like that "almost". You start to nod and you instantly wake with such an
intensity in mind and body, your senses become super acute and reflexes are cat-like. Then, it slowly fades away as you realize you are in no
immediate danger. Anybody get me on this?
Some kind of warning system is going off in those of us who choose to listen and pay attention and we are addressing it if anything in a collaborative
study. Anyone understand that theory?

I've had similiar experiences, most good some bad. I am native american and participated in sweat lodges, the idea being that pain and suffering
allow the body to become more in tune with the spirit world. Fasting can achieve this also. I've been in a sweat lodge and saw spirits manifest as
balls of light moving around so bright they actually illuminated the other participants, which convinced me beyond a doubt since the sweat lodge is
sealed to provide total darkness. The chants and prayers are meant to attune ourselves to the desired wavelength. Some may say hallucination but
everyone in the sweat lodge were seeing the exact same thing. I ask can a hallucination somehow make me able to see in absolute darkness? Dreams are
also a window into the spirit world. Because the dream is in a format we do not understand, most people write it off as the brain keeping itself
occupied while we sleep. Now for the bad as long as i can remember i've had the same dream of being chased by a shadow with human form, until 5
years ago i've always awakened before it caught me. Until then i've always ran from it. My dream took place in the living room with my son and wife
sleeping on a mattress. In my dream everything appeared normal until i noticed a shadow approaching my sleeping family. I sensed it was after my son
who was sleeping in the dream and could not run away like i wanted to. I was tired of being scared and decided to fight back, since i couldn't bear
the thought of it taking my son, so i threw myself in between the shadow and my son to save him only to have the shadow push me onto the mattress, as
i tried to get back up and continue the fight it reached out and grabbed me by the ankle. I could feel my leg start to go numb with cold pain at the
point of contact traveling up my leg, as it reached the top of my thigh i could feel it tearing into my lifeforce as it traveled and started screaming
out loud which scared the hell out of my wife who awakened me and asked what my problem was. Upon awakening my left leg was in pain and still quite
numb but the feeling was coming back. I sleep on my back all the time as my wife can vouch for so cutting off circulation to my leg could not be the
answer and this felt very different from that feeling. I contacted a medicine man here and explained what happened, he came over the same day to
cleanse the house with tobacco ( not the tobacco sold by companies ) , sage, cedar and sweetgrass. He told me i came into contact with an evil spirit
which i already knew. From these experiences , i've learned to keep an open mind. There are some things that defy scientific explanations. Doesn't
stop anyone from trying though. History remembers native americans as uncivilized, savage, and primitive. We place a far greater importance on
spiritual advancement than technological advancement. Take only what we need to survive while maintaing balance with nature. Our knowledge is passed
down orally, so no written words, thus no proof as far as history is concerned. People wonder where our knowledge of plants medicinal uses came from,
i'll tell you.. from the spirit world which any native american would tell you unless they have been christianized or never asked. Trial and error
would not work very well considering the countless deaths that would occur from such experimentation. Healers who kill wouldn't make very good
healers now would they?

My wife had the same thing happen last night. She said she felt something on top of her this time. We have been married for 10 years and she has this
paralysis 2 times in a week or so and never before this month. I am worried if I go to sleep I won’t be able to get her out of this strange
occurrence.
this is typical of what happens when you are just on the verge of sleep. It is when you are most likely to leave your body. When she finds she
can't move it's because she really isn't there. She's aware of the room right? what's around her? sounds? but can't move.
It's probably because she is out of body at that time.
It's the not being able to move part that is scary but it's just because her spirit is not in the body.
It can be quite terrifying if you don't know what it is. Believe me it's nothing to worry about. Just tell her to ask to be surrounded by the
white light of the holy spirit for protection.

I've been waking up several nights in a row lately without being able to get back to sleep, usually at 4:44 am
I do believe that the veils are thinning as we approach a new age of awareness and that many things will not only be revealed to us but we will be
able to see more clearly into the fourth dimension and visa versa. We are also beginning our pass through the photon belt which is accelerating the
awakening consciousness. It's bound to open up areas of the paranormal in most of our lives...some good, maybe some not so good. That point at
which you are about to fall to sleep is typically the most vulnerable and the most accessible to other influences or to power of suggestion. BE SURE
THE TV IS OFF!
the trick is to try to live a balanced life physically, mentally and spiritually. This journey is for you and how you learn and develop through it,
no one else. What you are will naturally be reflected outward to others so it's important that we try to be completely balanced. Try to get off
any meds, most are completely unnecessary and are there to control or dumb you down. Try to sleep with your head in a northward direction. Turn off
any signals in your house if you can. I pray too for preservation and protection. That of course is up to you personally but it has always helped me
tremendously. Hope that helps
