The mark of the beast 666 or 616? Explained. It's the Whitehouse!

666 or 616
It is wrote, "Many are called, few are chosen." While many have bibles, few have read them. There are about a dozen or more mainstream translations in english, with some interesting differences in them.

The Number of the Beast is found at Revelations 13:18 in most bibles. It is most often 666. Yet in some bible's foot notes you may read; "Other ancient authorities read six hundred sixteen." Many people have heard of 666, but few know of 616.

There are probably more than 600 books and pamphlets about 666 and what it may represent, but very few about 616, if any. Several of the oldest bible manuscripts, and even the oldest one of all, read six hundred sixteen.

please explain, where does the number "616" came from?

it seems to me like your just reaching fro ideas here.

You have no "evidence" supporting this theory.

Well if there is such a thing as the 'Mark of the Beast,' I would say it's definitely 666.

The only letters in the English alphabet that add up to 6 (using numerology) are FOX, and we all know what that stands for. I suppose that would make old Rupert the antichrist then...

Where more conventional versions of the Bible give 666 as the “number of the beast,” or the sign of the anti-Christ whose coming is predicted in the book’s apocalyptic verses, the older version uses the Greek letters signifying 616.

I enclosed a link above explaining!

What I'm saying is the recent Catholic, L atin Bibles mention 666 but the older Greek version and original manuscripts quote 616, which is DCXVI the adress of the whitehouse, the home of democracy?

Coincidence?

The address to the White House is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 . .

There is NO 616 in there...

This article has an explanation for the number-name 666 that makes more sense to me:

identifying the mark

Interesting, for those who didn't read the article, it says in the greek translation the number is "DCXVI" which comes out to 616, D = 500, C=100, X = 10, V = 5, I = 1, so add them up and it's 616.

However, split the number up and you get "DC", and "16". Where the address of the White House is in "DC", and the address was once "16", but then changed to "1600".

So, the number is actually DC 16 according to this theory.

Greek is the original language of the text, but I have no idea how that part is written, think I'll research that a good bit.

Edit: I researched it a bit, and the numeral system used in the original text doesn't use roman numbers, it's some weird symbols I do not understand.

This is a very interesting theory. Mainly because as far as I know the 616 is only mentioned in one text and it is in the oldest one. It has always been believed to be an error.

But certainly all possibilities should be considered.

OH YES! Considering the BIG coincidence!

Why was it thought to be an error?

Well it is thought to be an error because all other texts (as far as I know) have the number 666. I have been studying the Bible for years and actually every single biblical teaching that I am aware of has always taught the number is 666. In fact, the Catholic Church itself states the number is 666 as having come from John himself.

But that still does not change the fact that the oldest known text says 616 and of course that being written in Greek is the same language that John wrote the original text in. There is some possibility that the text citing 616 is the first copy of the original.
