True Survivalists

Capt Smith and the Jamestown Settlement colonists.
The first official colony in the USA back in the day.
While they certainly did not embark to the New World as survivalists per sa. They certainly had to become survivalists until the relief expedition arrived the following year!

They sited the colony in an excellent defensive location, but suffered from chronic food shortages, harsh weather conditions AND they had to fight and kill to survive against hostile natives who wished them to leave.
So you have all three elements of the survivalist way having to be used and carried out.
The film 'The New World', while not bad, doesn't do the real historical account justice.
