Cop kills resident after false report about armed man

New York-A plainclothes police officer-his weapon drawn in response to a false report of an armed man inside a Bronx apartment building-shot and killed a baseball-bat weilding tenant in front of his wife and teenage daughter after he refused to drop the bat, police said Wednesday.
No gun was recovered and a 911 caller later admitted she embellished the report to respond more quickly to a melee inside the building.

This situation is a terrible tragedy for all those involved, including the policeman who fired the fatal shot at the man who died. It also is a shame that although it was an unintended consequence, the lady who made the origional report had to lie about the incident to begin with to get the police to respond faster to the incident, even though there was no handgun involved in the melee.
