In a sequence of events that neatly captures the contradictions of Barack Obama’s rise through Illinois politics, a phone call he made three
months ago to urge passage of a state ethics bill indirectly contributed to the downfall of a fellow Democrat he twice supported, Gov. Rod R.
Blagojevich. Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Though many here criticize Obama and have already accused him of being in cohorts with the suspect, it appears Obama is the only reason the governor
was caught. A state ethics bill had been vetoed, however, Obama called up some people and got the senate to overturn it.
Also, in case anyone is wondering:
By the time Mr. Obama intervened on the ethics measure, his relationship with Mr. Blagojevich, always defined more by political proximity than by
personal chemistry, had cooled as the governor became increasingly engulfed in legal troubles. There is nothing in the criminal complaint unsealed
Tuesday to indicate that Mr. Obama knew anything about plans to seek money and favors in exchange for his Senate seat; he has never been implicated in
any other “pay to play” cases that have emerged from the long-running investigation of the Blagojevich administration.
So, all of those people who claimed that Obama was involved should possibly reconsider, and even consider giving thanks to Obama for being responsible
for helping pass the bill that allowed this criminal to be caught.
Image if he helps implement bills like that in Washington.

On a funnier note, the Daily Show said if we had to guess where Mr. Blagojevich is hiding something, we should start with his forehead.

Wouldn't be surprised if this thread drops like a lead brick because it basically spells out that Obama helped screw this guy over, and that doesn't
make for good conservative moaning and hand wringing.

Exactly. Not to mention that it perfectly shows that Obama is capable of helping reshape Washington in the manner that we all want. Restoring
ethics, following money trails, and ending all of the crap.
I'm tired of my vote counting for 1, and lobbyist's votes counting for however many Benji's they fork over.

I'm not giving you a hard time, Irish-fella, I'm asking.
Chicago is notorious for having VERY corrupt politicians and with mobsters thrown in the political stew. Obama may or may not have anything to do
with this guy but all roads lead through REZKO - Obama and the Govenor as well. They are all closely connected or are only one degree of separation
from each other.
So far - there is no indication that Obama was directly involved with the Gov's currently known illegal hijinks.
I'm sure we'll be hearing 'That's not the Govenor i knew' soon.
Side note - The govenor looks like he's trying to do a bad impression of John Edwards. His hair ... ugh!

story here
Obama may not have first hand close ties with the govenor, but Axlerod and Emanuel do. Like I said - one degree of separation and all roads in
Chicago lead through Rezko.

You are correct. Those were bad words of mine. Obama is not the ONLY reason he got caught. He is the reason that the FBI examined the wiretaps to
see what was being said.
That's what I took away from the article at least.
And as far as his ties in Chicago go... you're right. Seems pretty dirty over there. Let's hope Obama is the diamond in the rough that he seems to
be.

Thread Here
Now Michelle Obama's name has allegedly come up in the Gov. Blago conversations. Is that still one full degree of separation from Obama, or
considering that this is his wife does it make it just a 1/2 a degree of separation?

I haven't checked O' bama's roots on his mother's side yet, But I was wondering if he may be part irish?
It wasn't that long ago that I had heard somewhere that the mob or mafia isn't what it used to be. Who's replaced them?...politicians? CEOs,
lobbyists etc. ? Wasn't the governor having some issues with a father-in-law just a few years ago with alleged mob ties?
O' bama is as if taking on corruption much like 'Jack' Kennedy did. So, how long will this new camelot last?

She was listed in the report and it said what?
What did it say about Michelle that would make you think anything negative about her?

Sounds like damage control for Obama, not that I'm saying he was part of this stupidity.
My question is this.
Why would his phone call 3 months ago make any differance? This has all played out since the election, the governor wouldn't have been able to
"sell" the seat 3 months ago.
Again, I am not saying he was involved, but something the governor said struck me as odd.
He said something along the lines that all Obama would give him was appreaciation and followed that with F them.
Obama had expressed interest in a certain individual to take his seat. Did the governor try and have Obama buy the seat for that individual and was
snubbed? Who knows?
The governor is a moron for even having these conversations over the phone when he knew he was being investigated for the last 5 years. The stupidity
of the situation is almost comical.

I have no idea. All i read was that she was listed in the report.
I figured I'd ask ya' - is she a full degree of separation or only a
half because she's a spouse?
That discussion is for the other thread.
I thought I'd link it from here for you to see.

I just read an ABC article that said they were only listening since October. That's not 5 years!

listening to wire taps for three months;
investigating Blago for 5 years (does not necessarily include listening to taps);

Obama supporting this bill was really important. And now we learn that Rahm tipped off the
FBI to Blago's Dealings.
Obama just said in his news conference that he was gathering the information on who (of his people) had talked with Blago about the Senate seat and he
would let us know that info when it's all gathered.
My bet is that Rahm has talked about the seat to Blago and he's the one who offered "appreciation".

Right, but obviously it wasn't much of an "investigation" if they did it for 5 years and accomplished nothing. Obama helps push this bill through
and the guy goes down in 3 months.
I'd say that's a pretty bold move by Obama. I don't expect you guys to give him any credit... it shoots down your whole perspective.
He's done something good for this country before he's even taken office. The next 4 years is not looking good for your cause. I'm sure the
smearing will continue, but it will continue being baseless and circumstantial.

You know, we have no clue what took place. I certainly don't trust a "Statement" by any politician until the truth has been uncovered.
Obama was shaking the hand of Blago in December, so, the no contact statement is a lie.

What "no contact" statement? He said they hadn't talked about the Senate seat. He didn't say they'd had "no contact".
