Anti-retroviral drugs used to treat HIV/Aids are being bought and smoked by teenagers in South Africa to get high.

Reports suggest that the drugs are being sold by patients and even healthcare staff for money.

Apparently the drugs used to treat HIV in Africa have Hallucinogenic Effects when smoked or snorted. I was under the impression that HIV drugs were really expensive and the poor people of Africa couldn't even afford them. So, they are being administered by healthcare staffs who are also selling them to people to abuse. Patients are even selling them to make some extra money!

I wonder what they do? I would've never thought that a pill for a virus would have such an effect that they would be subject to abuse... They must be desperate to get high or something. People have problems.

The drugs 'HERE' are expensive. The drugs 'THERE' are fairly inexpensive. We here in the US pay the highest prices for drugs needed to treat all forms of disease. We bere the brunt of the profit margins. Because the insurance rates take this into consideration, we pay the highest rates of any country that does not have socialised medicine!

Socialized Medicine is need in those country because most people can't afford to pay the real price for the medicine.

That doesn't explain why we here in the US must subsidize those governments by paying higher prices to cover the cost of research and production. It should be spread out among all payers in an even manner. If the governments are paying then let them pay what we have to here.
