With all the new Tech out there, anyone know how fast the fastest PC is. Not the released ones of course, but the ones no one talks about. Just wondering if the 1.0 teribyte cpu is out there somewhere. You get the idea, so if you know some inside skinny pass it on.

the question posed here is brilliant!

its NEC's Earth Simulator, which operates at a top-end of 40 teraflops (flops are the amount of float(ing) point opperations per second) that's 40 trillion ops per sec

check

computer.howstuffworks.com...

and

www.nec.co.jp...

that's it

dont know about the fastest CPU tho! but this one has a total of 5120 cpus - so much for dual processor pcs!

You can also check out www.top500.org for a list of other KNOWN supercomputers, I was more looking for the Unknown ones. Research has to be going on atom size switchs to allow for smaller CPU's, current CPUs are i beleave 13 atoms to a switch apart. Just wanted to know if anyone knows if they are working on maybe an optical CPU, to increase speed, looks like the current disign is going to be pushing the limets soon.

well just to give you an idea. the cia have a computer that they use to remote view. they scraped the human project nearly ten years ago now.

so you can imagine if they have a computer that was equal to that of the human mind that can remote view ten years ago, one can only guess what technology they have today. because when you get faster than the human brain it is just hard to imagine the possibilities unless you are working in these projetcs.

they estimate that military intelligence is around 500 years in front of public knowledge at the mo(and this is conservative estimate)

The fastest single processor that I've seen so far is the AMD Opteron 64bit Processor at 2.2 Ghz. Of course that might not seem like much comapred to the 3.2Ghz Intel chips, but the 64bit processor is much more suited to powerful number crunching applications.

yeah but the 64bit NEC (or motorola - correct me on this) CPUs in Macs are v.powerful... and what about the Sun Microsystem CPUS - or the CPUs used in some games consoles are 128bit they must be quite powerful. or the Intel P4 3.6extreme edition CPUs?

AMD processors can do more opperations at one time than the Intel CPUs but intel P4 Cpus have a higher clock speed... Intel is better for converting or editing movies for example, but AMD Athlon XP and above is better for number crunching....

Hi Andy!!

That's a remarkable claim Sir ie that the CIA have a computer capable of emulating the possibility of remote viewing - do you have a link for that please? I'd be intriguesd to find out more...
