"Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, were arrested by FBI agents on federal corruption charges Tuesday morning."

"Blagojevich and Harris, along with others, obtained and sought to gain financial benefits for the governor, members of his family and his campaign fund in exchange for appointments to state boards and commissions, state jobs and state contracts, according to the charges.

"The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering," U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement"
ChicagoTribune

"Blagojevich, 51, and Harris, 46, both of Chicago, were each charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery. They were charged in a two-count criminal complaint that was sworn out on Sunday and unsealed today following their arrests, which occurred without incident, announced Patrick J. Fitzgerald, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Both men were expected to appear later today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan in U.S. District Court in Chicago."

This appears to have nothing tom do with the B of A issues with Illinois.

It seems to be just simple crimes. Further, it seems that this state has a long history of this kinda graft and polititions being arrested/jailed.

Is this the same guy standing up for workers rights?

If so, it seems extremely good timing.

There's so much corruption going on, even at the top, so isn't it likely that they're only taking action in this particular case (while ignoring all others) because he's taken a very public stance in support of the workers?

Looks like a message of "do what you like within reason, but work against us and the corporate machine and we'll come after you for it".

"Several Democratic operatives from Illinois say the Illinois state legislature will likely move as quickly as possible to hold impeachment proceedings against Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D), in attempts to prevent the jailed governor from appointing President-elect Barack Obama’s successor in the Senate."

"Illinois law allows Blagojevich to make an appointment while in jail. While the decision would be a disaster for Democrats politically, no one is ruling out that prospect. Any candidate appointed by the jailed governor would be immediately tainted, and would face immense hurdles winning on their own in 2010."
Yahoo News

IS this the case of not wanting a criminal to appointed seats or is it an attempt to prevent a certain choice from being placed???
