Actually, there's not a lot of info about Vimanas in those two 5th century BC texts.

Sure, they're mentioned several times, but the VS was supposed to explain how they worked, how to fly them, etc.

No such info appears in the Mahabharata or the Ramayana.

In fact, according to Clive Hart (no relation), in "The Prehistory of Flight" (Berkeley, 1985) :

The Mahabharata compliments "the all-knowing Yavanas" (sarvajnaa yavanaa, said to mean the Greeks), as the creators of the vimanas.


So, according to the Mahabharata, the Greeks invented these flying machines.

Not exactly believable, wouldn't you agree?
