Alright, it seems that the ammo thing may be completely untrue.
I had heard that from someone at work who had heard it at a gun shop. Sounds like someone talking out their arse. I searched for any link to it on the net and couldn't find anything. But, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think ammo will become so scarce and expensive it won't matter if you own a gun or not. It won't work without bullets. I don't have a gun yet but have been buying 22 type bullets on and off for awhile now.
I was going to post a link but there are so many good ones on this subject I am just posting 'em all:

This is why short swords/long knifes, and Bows and arrows are my weapon of choice
It's cheaper, and if you run out of "ammo" just go to your nearest tree and start carving.

Not exactly. Though Obama has kept his mouth shut about it now in 1999 he proposed a gun bill that included:

Obama is also seeking to increase the federal taxes by 500 percent on the sale of firearm, ammunition

Here's a copy of the article.

Interesting.

One thing I haven't seen presented is "The increase in gun sales is not only because of Obama"

I know almost a dozen people at work who have recently purchased their first firearm. Why?

Because of fears of economic / social unrest. It is the whispered talk of the office and the smoking area. Sure there a few people who are afraid of a gun grab but the overwhelming majority of people I know are becoming aware and or of a feeling of "bad times ahead" and have started to react.

Rising unemployment, increased crime, and riots overseas have set the wheel in motion. Friday's talk in the office was comparing cheaper SKS rifles to AR15s.... should I use a shotgun or pistol for home defense? I can only afford one, should I get a cheap pistol for the car or a ruger 10/22 or an old nagant?

Women are telling their husbands to buy. People who had never thought of purchasing a home firearm are saying "I'll get one and store it in my attic just in case".

There is much more to this story than the election.

If it's time to bury your guns, it's time to use them. Period.

A few things I saw in this thread I'd like to clarify as the president of a corporation that holds an 01 FFL (Dealer in firearms other than destructive devices)

1. You do *not* need to take a special class to own a fully automatic weapon. You find one, fill out an application, send in a $200 ransom (oops, I meant fee) to the ATF and 3-6 months later, you get permission to own said firearm. You must keep that tax stamp on file for as long as you own the registered Class 3 item (Fully Auto, Suppressor, Short Barreled Shotgun/Rifle, etc.) If you move, I believe you have to acquire an amended tax stamp. Move to an area where it isn't allowed? You *must* sell it or relinquish it to the ATF for destruction.

2. I, too, have heard about the 500% excise tax on ammunition. WE MUST FIGHT THIS ISSUE TOOTH AND NAIL. I know people who own businesses that see in excess of a million rounds per year fired. This will put them out of business. The goverment has NO BUSINESS legislating a man's source of income away. Period.

3. The 1994 AWB sunsetting was a poke in the eye of the democrats. I think that this time they will not be so generous to include a sunset clause OR a grandfather clause. They have a very large majority in both houses as well as the presidency. If they decide they want to make all "assault weapons" illegal, I believe they can and will get it passed. They might be willing to torpedo their chances for reelection in 2010 to make all the eeeevil guns go away forever. May not be likely, but it's *definitely* plausible.

4. "Assault Weapons," or, Homeland Defense Rifles, as I call them, are nearly as rare as Jimmy Hoffa right now. I have accounts with some of the largest distributors/importers in the United States. I literally can't *find* an AR-15 to save my life, and AKs are grossly inflated in price, *if* I can find them at all. Hell, I just sold an AK parts kit (AK that's been cut in half through the receiver, used to repair a registered fully auto AK or build a non-transferrable semi-auto) for $230. Less than a year ago they were abundantly available for a little over $100.

5. Ammo. Also becoming harder to come by. I've seen prices skyrocket since 5 November, and despite some blatant price gouging, people are snatching up ammo nearly as fast as they can. Copes Distributing sold 16.000 rusty steel 30 rd AK magazines @ $5.50 per mag in about a week. The ones that were found to not function due to stuck followers...they sold for $4.50. These are NON-FUNCTIONING MAGAZINES and people are still clamoring for 'em like crackheads looking for a fix!

Obama can say what he wants to in order to try to placate the drooling masses. He's loaded his cabinet (his Veep especially) with all the anti-gunners he can find.

I'll keep buying as much as my meager finances allow. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him and my back hurts today.

This statement is absolute truth!

People are making huge piles of cash on the "Obama gun scare"

I'm a gun owner and an RKBA advocate, but even if Obama was the most strident anti-gunner in US politics (which he's not, not by a longshot), he couldn't get any of these nightmare bills passed, he simply wouldn't have the votes in Congress anyway.

I'm really getting kinda tired of this nonsense, it's a pathetic scam, and it's all about retailers raking in sales and the NRA raking in donations by spreading fear.

What a joke

The Right to SELF DEFENSE, which is a right that all animals have naturally, naturally endowed and inborn by their Creator, is not conferred to men by other mortal men. It is an inalienable right, just like speech, religion, etc...
The Bil of Rights is to list and enumerate several certain inalienable rights.

Infringement on the Second Amendment means, magazine capacity limits, Assault weapons bans, licensing fees, classes, registration fees, 600% tax on ammunition, permits (permission) and so on and so on..... It is not infringing on the primary issue of a arm, but upon the secondary issues like ammo, type of weapon, when you can carry it, when you can hunt with it, and so on and so on...
