Dont listen to the freaked out weirdo's, they always seem to find the good threads like this one. You have NOTHING to apologize for. Your observations and information share are like a breath of fresh air on the threads these days.

I was truthfully getting bored with ATS untill this duzey came along, it has been a kick in the butt to reup on the survival stuff I have let get too relaxed and used as of late.

Thankyou for all you have done, and I know that if no EQ happens in the next few days I am more prepared for what ever may or may not come. You will not have to say the WB is incorrect, it is what it is.

THAT is my point... prediction is useless unless it can be pinpointed otherwise people will ignore the cries of WOLF

The thing is... and I don't mean to be rude, but...

How is this a prophesy? This is a known fault with a periodicity whose "period" has come.

I wish people would be a little more rational about the subject of natural disasters. Note: natural.

We know that there are major faults and we continue to build around them. In fact, in the case of San Francisco each time the city gets leveled they rebuild. Some day the fault will rest, but...until then...why rebuild? True, we build many of our structures to be earthquake proof, but at the same time there are risky places to live.

If you live in the midwest and west you have tornadoes to worry about.
If you live in California, earthquakes, wildfires, and mudslides
Deserts equal droughts.
New England equals ice storms
South East US and Gulf Coast gets hurricanes
Pacific Northwest has volcanoes

If you know these things you just prepare in advance. There is no prophesy or guesswork to it. These things will happen and be prepared.

No fear mongering to it. It just is. Tornadoes are a fact of life in Texas. Hurricanes in Florida. You just either learn to be prepared and deal with them, or...you move somewhere else.

I'm not sure if the right message came from this...what I am trying to say is that these things are normal, natural occurrences. Just be prepared for them and you will be fine. You might lose your home, but if prepared (like leave the city when a Hurricane is coming) you can save your life.

My prayers go out to everyone and I hope you are all ready for whatever happens.

Be safe.

Look Zorgon, there is no need to disrupt this thread with facts. It is obviously not wanted and does not provide the feel-good-fear that everybody not familiar with earthquakes is enjoying thus far in this thread.

I was holding out on REAL data myself but since you've opened the door:

Mag-Name/Epicenter Date Time Lat Lon Event ID
3.5 15.9 mi SE of Santa Cruz Is. (E end), CA Dec 07 2008 15:39:01 UTC 33.867 -119.324 14408728
5.1 34.5 mi E of Barstow, CA Dec 06 2008 04:18:42 UTC 34.813 -116.422 14408052
4.0 14.4 mi N of Trona, CA Dec 02 2008 16:53:09 UTC 35.971 -117.322 14407020
3.7 14.4 mi N of Trona, CA Dec 02 2008 16:41:19 UTC 35.971 -117.322 14407012
3.8 15.2 mi NNE of Trona, CA Dec 02 2008 11:23:44 UTC 35.980 -117.307 14406888

I live within 100 miles of the above 5.1 magnitude near Barstow.

Guess what my dog was doing days leading up to this? Nothing.

Wait, let me check all the local posts from the first thread in my area just prior to that day.....okay, nothing relevant there either.

I am now going to add a very unusual and very odd sighting of an animal.

A few minutes ago, while I was driving home, I saw something that literally made me gasp.

In the middle of the road - an approximately 4 foot snake had been run over - it was curled up, but I could tell it was "big" because the curls wrapped a few times. It had about a 3 to 4 inch round body.

That sighting there is not a "subjective" view - it was an honest absolute view.

Correct me if I am wrong but shouldn't snakes be hybrinating right now?

Ok, yeah that is really odd. I have never seen a snake run over in December, at least not where I live in Texas. In the Spring and Summer, definitely, but not now. Something is very weird about that. If you start seeing them all over the road, time to pack up and leave...

I am curious, what is the temperature there right now?

I live nextdoor to people who own two dogs. Three days ago, one of the dogs got loose from the backyard area. There is a truck parked next to the fence and the dog climbed on top of the truck and jumped over the fence (which is about 7 ft. tall). My wife was in the front yard of our house and I was in the back yard. She saw the dog run out into the street and get hit by a car and I heard it. THUMP! Needless to say, my wife was pretty shook up by the whole thing and so was I, really. Strange behaviour for that dog. After it was hit, the dog got back up and ran back to the house! I'm guessing the dog will be okay...for now.

I should also mention that the squirell population is a lot less and the few that I do see are acting very "skittish." Running in circles, etc.

I will keep you posted on any more unusual behavior. (Does my wife count?)

It was in the low 30's overnight - today is the warmest day we have had in awhile - it is actually in the upper 50's right now.

But even with this warmer day - we have had freezing days up until today with lows in the teens.
I can't imagine a snake coming out on a luke warmish but still chilly day to sun. From my understanding snakes stay in all winter, unless I am wrong.

You do realize that the only proof that anyone has on this site is a completely un-credible article from a site that is registered by a 12 year old. Basicly the most pessimistic, un-easy people in the world that don't step out their front door without some body armor and a 9mm. Their gonna get old and they are going to wish that they had lived their life without so much fear.

webbot is complete trash. I can't believe people actually buy into this stuff.

more importantly, there is a significant whiff of charlatanism here too -- it doesn't take a genius to predict an earthquake, there are e/qs every day all over the world. And the thing about animals acting strange is a classic charlatan trick too -- you ask 1000 people if they're animals are acting 'weird', if just a small percentage, say 50, reply that yes, their animals are acting weird, then you post the results and it appears to validate your theory.

The whole thing is a scam. Webbot is a scam, this thread is a scam, the theory is a scam, and not worthy of anyone's attention. It seriously impairs this forum's credibility that this childish nonsense is still discussed as a 'top topic' days after being posted.

If anything this entire post open's the mind to possibilities. I rather enjoyed the information. Anyone looking for a quantitative smoking gun proof, wake up. Even concreate can be fabricated. Trust your insticts, you are an animal. It always boils down to survival.

One idea that just came to me was - rather than relying on seismometers, what kind of data could be gathered from buried microphones? It could provide a new and interesting avenue for research, possibly turning up new ways of early detection or early warning.

The only early warning system of the 8.0 magnitude quake I experienced in Perú was the hotel TV starting to judder violently on its bracket

I have been really on the look out for strange signs, even though I am in central Florida. The main strange thing is that there are no acorns this year. And the bird population is so scarce. We usually have tons of all kinds of birds here, seeing that we stay alot warmer. But I have mostly seen vultures and very few other birds.

I came across this article that may be of some interest to you about the acorns.

Yeah, they predicted something major happening on Oct 7 that would be a sign of a financial cascading so to speak that would be ongoing. The 7th was the starting day, the "ah ha!" moment.

You're right. Nothing happened on the 7th. Oh, except the whole little thing with the Icelandic bank falling. But the currency of a first world nation crumbling isn't a big deal. They are now rioting. Nothing to see there...
