Strategic Command Chief Urges Quick Nuclear Weapons Modernization

www.washingtonpost.com

The leader of the U.S. Strategic Command said yesterday that "time is not on our side" to modernize the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile, particularly as China and Russia upgrade thier nuclear warheads and delivery systems.

...the nation's nuclear modernization program was in a "holding pattern" until the Obama administration could review studies that are to be completed next year.

Nuclear readiness, one of the biggest topics since Aug. 6, 1945, is being brought up again here.

Rep. Tauscher thinks the incoming Obama admin. should ratify the Test Ban Treaty, make lower-yield nukes with less toxic components, and include safety elements to prevent use by terrorists.

Good idea, or is she trying to be politically correct, or is she 'soft' on Communism, and which terrorists should be prevented from use? Do you think the U.S. is a terrorist?

Or is this question of updating our nukes coming along on a specific timeline, pre-determined by the-powers-that-be, to ready us for some inevitable upcoming pre-emptive strike or invasion?

Time is not on our side, in what way?
China and Russia don't want to nuke anyone.
No one is going to launch a nuke.
They know they will get nuked.
This idiot liar is just trying to get a hold of more money.

Thanks for your response, AgentOrangeJuice, and welcome to ATS!

I can't speak for the man, but perhaps he's referring to a new urgency in being better prepared for responses to potential acquirement of nukes by countries like Iran.

I think you're correct, about Russia not wanting to nuke anyone, for now; but China? I'm just not convinced that they wouldn't push the button on us!
