Caribbean drills right under U.S.'s nose

The Russian submarine hunter Admiral Chabanenko is heading to Panama for a short visit following joint exercises with Venezuela in the Caribbean. The two navies trained to deal with air attacks, conduct rescue operations and refuel at sea.

I now see an intense competetion between US and Russia for strategic advantage in South America. Russia is slowly being recognized globally as a superpower again.

While the naval exercises, I feel, are not a direct threat to US, it undermines the fragile nature of Russia - US race for domination in the global geo-political arena.

This comes against the backdrop of the Georgian war and the Ukraine and Georgia NATO membership issues.
