When the crusaders for europe went to the holy land there was a group of nomads in the desert there. no one to my knowledge ever really knew where
they had areas of mass existence(towns or cities). these nomads where called hassassins on account of the fact they made and drank a drug called
hashish which was extremely powerful and caused hallucinations and made the drinker seemly go mad! After the knights templar became powerful it seeems
they made a habit out of murdering and raping these hassassins when thay found them often in the middle of nowhere. the hassassins found out this and
started to fight back. they would kill templars and hospitalier knights right on the pilgrim road. the knights started to do likewise. then it got to
the point where it became part of the creed hassassins lived by to kill these kights wherever they found them. it was like a private secert war. Once
this tenet was put into their creed the hassassins are believed to have actually coordinated killings giving birth to the first most advanced
assassinations. It is also true that the word assassin actaully comes from hassassin.Though the actually coordination of the killings they commited was
probably rough at best it was still some of the first planned out and excuted assassinations. Though they didnt always succeed. Many hassassins died
in there attemps. there numbers started to dwindle. Im not sure where or what happened to the hassassins.
mention of the hassassins can be found in the book "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown and is also a large part of the video game "Assassins
Creed"

There is an old myth that the use of hash drove men crazy and turned them into murderous monsters, but that is a myth. Had they really done that they
would likely have had a good meal and fell dead asleep. They would have been easier to kill not deadlier.
Modern Cannabis is in fact more powerful than hash was as it was a way to concentrate the original weak Cannabis effects.
I'm too lazy to research it right now you should spend some time in a search engine.
Here is the Wiki info and it appears we both had the spelling wrong.
Wiki Article
The Hashshashin (also Hashishin, Hashashiyyin, or Hashasheen) from which the word Assassins is thought to originate, were the military wing of
the Nizari branch of the Ismā'īlī Shia Muslims following a dispute regarding the succession of the eighth Fatimide Caliph Al Mustansir. The
Nizāriyya, upheld Nizar to be the rightful successor but the faction were driven from Egypt. However the majority of Isma'ili outside of the Fatmid
State believed that Nizar was the rightful successor, and established a number of fortified settlements in present day Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon,
the first of which was Alamut under the charismatic Iranian leader Hasan-i Sabbah. Persecuted as infidels by the dominant Sunni sect in the Muslim
world, they sent dedicated people to eliminate prominent Sunni leaders, whom they considered "impious usurpers."[1] [2] The sect was decimated by
the invading Mongols, their last stronghold being seized by Hülegü Khan in the year 1272.
The term Hashshashin, a name given to them by their Arab enemies, was derived from the Arabic "haššāšīn" (حشّاشين, "hashish user"). It
also means the ones who produce hashish, which they are alleged to have ingested prior to their attacks, but this etymology is disputed. The sect
referred to themselves as al-da'wa al-jadīda (Arabic:الدعوة الجديدة), which means the new doctrine, and were known within the
organization as Fedayeen.
It appears the connection to hash may be false.
When I attended college in the late 60's and early 70's the History Major's were some of the biggest stoner's on campus. They are Professors now
so perhaps it is wishful thinking on their part?

The Hassassin were Shia and similar to the Sunni Sufis in that they were monk like. This means that they were extremely religious, conducted Sars
which is a bit like talking in tongues as do Evangelicals in the US. The association with hashish is a disparaging description and spread about by the
enemies of the Hassassins.
The Hassassins called themselves Fadeheen meaning (I think) faithful and went about their assassinations and other activities as fanatically as some
of the Crusaders who invaded the Middle East.
Saddam Hussein tried to borrow some of this fanaticism by calling his irregular forces Fadeheen at the start of this current war in Iraq.
