The federal government is reviewing applications from hundreds of banks seeking rescue funding and is "actively" developing new programs to
right the nation's unsettled financial system, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Monday.

Is there any mechanism in place that allows the public (having no confidence in government) that would allow them to overthrow it? Something besides a
revolution?
I haven't had my coffee yet so excuse the question if deemed silly.

The constitution was originally set up so that we could have the right to defend ourselves from a government gone astray. Part of that set up was
the right for an individual state to secede from the United States. It's been over 100 years since we lost this important liberty - when Lincoln
refused to let the southern states become their own government.
In today's world the government has all the power. Our civil liberties have been trodden down and our rights are reduced with almost every new law
and/or tax.
I wish there was a way outside of revolution - and personally I don't think a revolution would make it very far before being squashed.
For all you know revolutions have been started and stopped a dozen times -- who would report it?

I often wondered this myself.
For example, when a bad dude gets his photo splashed across the news for some crime or other. How do we know it really happened and that they aren't
just trying to shut him up, permanently for something he knows?
We can't trust anything from the MSM.

Ever notice how the banks can line up for bailouts without question while the Big 3 have to stand in front of Congress and detail a new business plan
and get nitpicked on how they traveled from Detroit to Washington?
It shows where the real power is...
As for a corrupt government,
The bailout of financial institutions can be explained simply. The banks are getting money from the Fed, which is our tax money or going to be our tax
money, or going to be a loss of spending power due to inflation. The banks take that money and lend it to us. So we GIVE them our MONEY so they can
LEND us OUR money and when we pay it back it will be THEIR money.
People should be storming Washington for this.

I completely agree. Why throw such a fit over bailing out an auto company when they don't bat an eye to hundreds of billions for the banks.
As for storming Washington... unfortunately most people don't see the bailouts in the same light (reality).
