Former Police Chief To Accept Prison Sentence, Sources Say

Years of denials could come to an end this morning when former Schenectady Police Chief Greg Kaczmarek is expected to accept two years in state prison for a guilty plea related to the drug case against him, sources have confirmed.
His wife Lisa Kaczmarek is also expected to take a deal, accepting six months in jail for her own plea.
Both are scheduled to be in Schenectady County Court before Judge Karen Drago at 11 a.m. today. The official court calender has both on for possible pleas.

This is just the latest for ex Police Chief Greg Kaczmarek, who was turned down once before, in 1993, for the Chief of Police position with the S.P.D. because of all the rumors of his drug use.
Then his luck seemed to change back in 1996, when he was again put up for confirmation as Chief of Police.
He became a lightning rod for criticism again, not only for the rumors about his own drug use, but also because of the conroversy that arose with 12 officers resigning and going to jail at different times because of crimes committed while part of the force. Some of the crimes came out after the Albany FBI Field Office investigated some of the allegations against the police force.
Then earlier this year, it came out in transcripts of a wiretap that his wife Lisa was heard to say that Greg could act as a mule and pick up drugs from the person she was talking to. Greg Kaczmarek is heard in the background saying that if he got stopped after he picked up the drugs by police, he would get by by flashing his badge and saying he had bought the drugs as part of a sting operation.
