America, why have you abandoned her?

<<  1    2  >>

Topic started on 1-12-2008 @ 10:22 PM by soultorent

Why is the anti-American sentiment here so strong?

People of other nations, people of America, I assure you. I can 100%, undeniably state that the vast majority of this great land is a very good person. Please do not blame the majority for the idiotic minority that we have silently allowed to take control. We are all the same, we all question whether what this government is doing is right or not. Contrary to belief, we hold on to guns for our protection not to kill each other. Contrary to belief, a good majority of us feel sorry for the wars we have imposed. Contrary to belief, Americans are decent people. Do not judge us on what our officials do. Sure, we elected them. But I guarantee you 75% of the time they were elected on false pretenses. We do get it right some of the time.

Where was the Anti-Americanism when we liberated Europe?

Where was the Anti-Americanism when we took the war to the terrorists?

Where is the Anti-Americanism when we hand out millions, billions of dollars of relief to third-world countries?

Why are we only kicked when we are down? Did American not help all of you at once? I feel like Antony at Caesar's funeral right now.

I speak not to disprove of what America has done, but to ask you, why turn your backs now?

Please do not refer to me as simply a "Yankee". I am an American, and I am proud to be in this country. Although I may not support her actions sometimes, I support the men and women who carry them out and so should you. They have defended us all at one point.

Why have you abandoned her?

There is no logic involved where hate is concerned. It is mostly caused by jealousy or a lack of self-esteem. People think that labeling or slandering other people makes them look better and covers up their own inadequacies. Pity them and don't let it bother you.

well, the world is fickle. just look at how people must see this from another view. WE as a country, assume the responsibility of being the "police" of the world, helping to maintain stability, but they see us acting corrupt. It is no wonder that we are not liked all over when we preach one thing and do something totally different. I love america, my country, but it is not hard to imagine why someone who didn't live here would not like us, like it or not, we will be judged as a nation bvased on the actions of our leaders, and what have we showed them lately? what have we done to give them a good opinion? We start a war on false pretenses, thousands die, more still dying; spin it however you will, this is how it is seen. we nuke a country then give them millions to rebuild, it's a tradition to "help" other countries by first attacking it and then rebuilding it more to our liking. The world sees us as an arrogant, selfish nation, and who can blame them? Our leaders are to blame, they have gave us the horrible reputation we have now, we are the BULLY of the world.

what the world sees of the US is what the US projects of itself to the rest of the world, in the news you dont hear about the millions of dollars donated in aid, you hear of the millions of dollars squndered by dictators that was given to them by the US, you dont hear about the US soldier that risked his life to save a school full of children you hear about the soldier whom in the heat of comat and under fire, allegedly caused the death of a child.

you dont hear about the possible terrorist attacks that have been foiled you only hear about the methods employed to extract that information.

and as for "joe/jill the plumber" us media, movies tv shows portrays the people of the US to be extreamly stupid and people all around the world see this and start to believe it

but i have to blame us (the people)
after all, we threw a fit when congress voted for the bailout against 95% of us telling them we didn't want it....
then shortly thereafter we voted those people right back into office. Sorry, but it looks to me like a lot of us are all talk and no action. We had the chance to not vote for those people who directly acted against our will, but we just put 'em right back into the seat. I am almost Just as ill at our citizens as i am the leaders. I see little progress, and it doesn't show signs of improving.

I agree with you 100% that the majority of Americans are good people who don't deserve the bad reputation we have.

With that being said I can agree with people who hate america also, it's just that they should hate our government, and its policies, not it's people.
I hate living in a country where we work more hours per year than most 'civilized' nations, and get less vacation time.
We don't have universal healthcare, which in a nutshell means that if you are born into a poor family you will recieve VERY limited healthcare via government programs.

A few corrupt S.O.B.'s at the top construct foreign policies that force the rest of us to have to claim we're canadian when we go on vacation.
I can't speak for anyone else but if I have to say "eh?" one more time I'm going to get sick, it's not that I don't like canada either, I just wish we didn't have to hang our heads in shame and pretend to be from another country while outside the U.S. for fear of heaving our heads cut off by men in ski masks and the video uploaded to youtube.

As for people blaming it on the American citizens think about it for one minute...
We elect them, and when they 'run amuck' causing harm we don't stop them.
We impeached Clinton for getting a little oral pleasure, yet we allow Bush to craft policies that strip our civil liberties and cause harm to people around the world...
I'm not saying they should blame us, but are you that surprised when they do, given this context?

Until we can take our government back, and set this country on the right track again, we don't deserve the respect of the world, and I don't expect that we will get any.

It's america's fault really. They could have raise its children up a little better. Now America's basements are filled with fools crouching because choppers fly over.

America isn't perfect, but it is the best nation around. Shame too many have their own adjendas to see this clearly.

When you stop looking for what you want to see and try to take into account all perspectives its clear America is doing all she can.

Why are you speaking of America as being "ONE" when clearly there is not one. This is something you have put upon yourselfs. When i hear how "YOU" are talking about Bush when afterall it was "YOU" who elected him twice!!
I still think very highly of America and most of the people in it. But you'll won't hear me speak of Europe with the amount of pride that you people have for your country. If you really feel so much "ONE" than take the reponsibility together for what your president has come up with the last 8 years......
And yes, you have done a lot for the world when it comes to helping out but that is part of the role you chose. We will most likely help you out if ever needed....
I wouldn't worry to much about public opinion around the world for they haven't done any better themselfs......

Peace

Who is Europe to call out the mistakes of leaders. Take a look in the mirror before you start shouting.

thats stupid and ignorant, the only reason you now live in a democratic country where you can more or less do what you want is because of the US

if it wasnt for them you would be bowing to the supream empror blessed in the light Hirohito and would be apart of the Japanese empire and us wide eyed dogs would be nothing but slaves, if germany hadnt blown everything up by this stage.

lets face it the Japan back then is alot different to the friendly Japan we know today.

the whole world has alot to be thankful for of the US

Take your own advice, friend. I'm asking simply to not lump in the decent Americans with the lunatics. Bush? He's a lunatic. However, he has done some good things in Afghanistan.

Actually, I think you'll find it's the "they're all jealous and lack of self-esteem" type comments that actually generate the 'hate' in the first place. American arrogance is pretty good at getting people's backs up.

I am a Australian, and I am living in Australia. I can honestly say that, I honestly do thank the continuest friendship that America does have with Australia. The friendship is a strong bond between trust of our nations. By the way, I hoped that John McCain should of won.

No sir, I can say I am about 50% culture blind. I'm now making a conscious effort to understand other nations toils. I believe only once you understand can you be understood. On that principle so to should you try to understand the American struggle going on. There are countless Americans who are bent on proving we are the same good people who rose to Europe's defense. Who rose to America's defense countless times. I think that it is a reachable goal if we stop wiggling around in other countries affairs.
