But what would you expect to find in a desert?
[...]
Spiders, scorpions, snakes, microbial life, cactus and other flora.
Is it so weird to think about this?
From what has been studied so far, there appears to be some water at the poles but overall the planet would probably not have enough to sustain cactus
and other flora or the other forms of life you mention. The surface doesn't even appear to have much (if any) soil in which to grow plant
life--it's primarily rocks.
But all of Mars has not been explored yet so some of these things may exist elsewhere on the planet.
I agree with the idea that there may be some forms of life we humans don't even recognize.

Well, the Earth is also known as "the 3rd rock from the sun", isn't it?
And there's a little bit more then just rocks around here too.
Answering your question: What would I expect? More then just rocks, that's for certain.
Peace
There is a difference between the nickname "3rd rock from the sun" in which all planets are compared to mere rocks and we are on the
third......AND......an actual giant rock!
