So you don't like me.
Why? You need a sense of humor.

I really do not understand what you had a problem with in my reply.
Plus you never answered my question.
What would Thomas Jefferson think of America now?

Then instead of being rude you can tell me what I did to upset you.
Hunt down march music? That's funny.

Wonderful and excellent OP Slayer.

First, I want to say that I see this desire for America to fail as comparable to sports. Everybody is shooting for number 1 and cheering for their own team. They want to see what it is like to be so powerful and and in constant demand. They want to be the leader who the world first calls upon. They want to choose what the agenda and terms will be.

I can't blame them. If America was number two or below, I would be arguing against number one as well.

Second, I agree that one of the things that made us the best is the people. People who cared about each other and were less likely to be distracted by materialistic things. People who believed in doing right for the most part. People who took care of their family and wasn't as likely to be so quick to throw their grandparents or parents into some nursing home. People who were willing to work hard for a day's pay, even if that pay wasn't fair pay.

Now, it seems we are totally opposite of our ancestors. I realize times have changed and people have to adapt to changing times, but does that mean we had to leave our morals and values behind as well.

I don't have to say or spell out how Americans are today. You as well as others see it getting worse everyday. Yes, there are still some great caring Americans around, but the actions of the non-caring are overshadowing the good IMO.

Great thread Slayer even though DaddyBare says it's your fault.

I am that first generation American you are talking about. You're right we were very patriotic and devoted to the American way.

We are a nation of immigrants today as we have always been. What makes you think the first generation son of a mother from Mexico (for example) is any less patriotic (on average) that of European mother, as was mine? Many Mexican American war heros come to mind.

There have been a lot of things that have changed but never dismiss American patriotism and devotion to the American way of life.

One of the strengths of America is its constant influx of immigrants who on average are very happy and thankful to be here!

Sorry it took so long to respond...

Am I being overly patriotic?

YES. Patriotism was cool for 15 mins following 9/11... everyone put out their American flags, the before and after pictures of run down lower middle class homes from Virginia Main Streets were inspiring as they went from crap, to brightly colored red white and blue.

But what changed was not ... really.. our attitude, it was "those other peoples attitudes" .. What I refer to is the select group, very small, that get offended by EVERYTHING. To be patriotic is to be a bigot, an isolationist, a warmonger, a racist etc.. Then there are different terms of "what is patriotic" .. I would say Slayer, that the Patriotism you and I follow is frowned upon by the Liberal Left, and the Socialist Right.

Globalism

A World without Borders is the goal of the political and economic elite.. to break down borders opens trade, thus profit, not to mention a flood of dirt poor immigrants to do you bidding for 10 cents an hour. The corporations pushing globalism are the ones who own the politicians, the courts, the TV' stations, the music industry, Hollywood etc.. I believe Europe is a prime example of the destructive power of Globalism .. the European Union has successfully done what Rome failed to do, what Napoleon failed to do, what the Catholic Church failed to do, what the USSR failed to do, what Hitler failed to do.. destroy National identiy and formulate a massive super state. It's the same force that destroys the traditional American values, why "American First" is deemed ignorant.

One thing is for certain .. empires don't last forever, an America has lasted longer than anyone else in history as a World Superpower without competition .. so we will either give rise to a new more powerful superstate that will eventually destroy us, or else we will internally rot until we are reduced to a shell of what we once were, and then ultimately collapse.. probably not in my life time, but eventually.. time destroys everything.

But Slayer if you really want to know what America's problem is.. if you want to reduce it to a paragraph.. no .. a sentence.. hell, to one WORD ..then I believe we can summarize EVERYTHING since the 1880's -- APATHY

We are apathetic towards everything .. our leaders walk all over us, an extreme minority dictates our moral compass, politicians pimp us, pharmaceuticals poison us, banks robbed us, nations are buying us bit by bit, and above all, our Government betrayed us. But as long as it doesn't creep into our homes were we cower in fear hoping, that at the very least the Feds will just leave us alone in our own homes, then we simply don't give a damn.

Well, looks like since this thread is over a year old. I shall put some updates in, if I may. Even in this past year, there has been many changes, good and bad. I will start by stating some good changes, then work towards the bad.

Good changes:

America is developing a very positive change. "GO GREEN!" we hear, and see this message quite frequently. New solar energies, new wind-based energies, water-based energies, new developments quickly leading us into the Quantum Era, Americans may be finally realising that we, as a country, were NOT as powerful as we thought. Americans were waking up, worried, scared, loathing, and throwing a temper tantrum. " Our convenient way of living is gone! What can we do!?! ". Americans are now realizing that we don't have this convenience anymore, thus are now reverting to elder ways of living, saving money, working for money, just to provide basic needs, food, water, etc. We are no longer, "the" super power. We have found ourselves crumbling down, and in a sense, de-developing. We are now coming to the realization that WE are not the best, the smartest, etc. I think this is what our country needed in order to make a positive change. WE NEEDED THE BOOT IN OUR ASS!! lol We have also focused more on values and morals, than ever before!

Bad Changes:

Sadly there are still some issues to discuss. New Health Reform Law, citizens will be MADE to pay for health insurance, credit card companies finding loop holes in laws, and making it harder for many newer generations to aquire credit, good or bad, more companies still wasting time, and money. Which really brings me to a good point, why did we bail-out the companies??? The companies wouldn't even be there if it weren't for the CITIZENS! I would have invensted the bail-out money into the American people. That money was enough to give every American several thousands of dollars. The government could have regulated the money given, they are good at controling our money anyways, so may as well have them do some good, and required Americans to pay off debts, buy a new car, etc. This would one, make every American, or atleast most, be out of debt, therefore more money going towards businesses, therefore boosting the economy right there, creating jobs as well, because companies would be making their money, so they then could hire more workers, etc. Buying a new car, from GM, Pontiac, Etc. would have kept these businesses open, and they'd still be thriving, require car companies to sell more green vehicles, less gas guzlers. I would write more, alot more, but I'm getting tired and my writing is starting to sound like jibberish, lol. I will end in this note though.

Who says money is actually worth anything? Who says the gold we back it with is worth anything? Money is nothing more than paper, gold is nothing more than a shiny metal. Both of which came from our mother earth, provided by God. So just remember the next time you buy the next big thing, and think to yourself, "I'm buying a natural substance, made from Earth, with another natural substance, made from Earth". It's amazing to realize that everything in this world, cost nothing. Everything we have, or will have built, made, etc. can be made without money. Do you really think an electrical plant will stop producing electricity, all because there is no money????? No, it will still keep going. Yet we pay anyways....this is why, in many historical religous writings, it states, "Money is the root of all evil". This is a very valid phrase. We wouldn't have the majority of the problems we do, if it weren't for money/ currency, being involved. Too bad people, not just in America, are too lazy to work for free....

Your wrong the dumbing down of America is a direct result of political correctness. Lets look we dont want to give school kids grades because it will hurt there feelings. We dont want them to play sports because the losers again get there feeling hurt. We cant have students doing better then others in classes so we create a curve so we dont hurt there feelings. All this does is bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator. So everyone is only as smart as the dumbest person in there school. And they never learn to strive because for better because competition is bad. Most western countries are dead we just dont know it yet.

PS didnt mean to use the word dumb i meant mentally challenged.

If we are going to fall like other great empires before us then so be it. I feel that we have had one hell of a ride.

It is this empire building you mention that has indeed ushered in the changes you also speak of. The United States of America was never supposed to be an empire, but rather a confederation of states, that came together in order to build a stronger defense against tyranny. Empires by nature are tyrannical, and this is why empires are antithetical to self government which was the ideal by which The Articles of Confederation, and even the more centralized federal government created by The Constitution for the United States was founded upon.

Dismissing The Bill of Rights as a bill of goods plays right into the hands of empire builders, for that is all they want, for people to believe that freedom and inalienable rights are just a silly ideal and not valid in a practical world, and by they, I don't mean that mysterious acronymistic TPTB, but I mean those tax feeders who have infiltrated so much of the bureaucracies that infest this nation, believing they are fully entitled to our money for their survival, while telling us what we can and can not do and then smugly reminding us how much we need them. These people, these tax supported leeches, love to see it when someone dismisses the Bill of Rights as a bill of goods. That Bill of Rights, as they would have us believe, is a grant of privileges from government to us, but anyone who bothers to read the language of The Bill of Rights knows full well that those Amendments are prohibitions on governments and not any grant of rights.

What made The United States of America great? Not a damn thing, as the United States has never been anything more than an ideal, but when that ideal is lived up to, great people have been able to flourish and prosper, and because of their greatness others were inspired to greatness as well, and even those not so inspired, were able to ride on the backs of giants, and enjoy the convenience of greatness. No government has ever achieved the greatness that one individual can, when left alone to accomplish the goals they set forth. There never would have been any space race if the Wright Brothers were told that only the government has the authority to develop air crafts, and the eventual move out into the universe won't happen as long as we foolishly rely upon governments to make that happen.

If people relied upon governments for light during the night, we would still be burning the midnight oil in reality rather than metaphorically. If people relied upon governments for vehicles that went faster than horses, we would still be riding horses, and buggy's, and of course, where there never was any DHB, (Department of Horse and Buggy), we now suffer the indignities of a DMV, allowing that bloated bureaucracy to smugly tell us that driving is a privilege and not a right, and expecting our hard earned money in order to pay their salaries so they can smugly tell us what our rights aren't.

If people relied upon governments to grant them rights we would not have any rights, but merely privileges that would be revoked on a moments notice based upon the whims of madness. When people rely upon governments in order to exist, existence is futile, and all will be assimilated. Resistance not just futile, but clearly since the people relied upon their government, resistance is moot. When people accept the role of beast of burden, and allow the scorpion of government to ride on their backs, it is just a matter of time before that scorpion will sting.

When people understand that it is government that is instituted to be the beast of burden, and We the People who ride on their back, then and only then, will the People learn how to reign in an out of control beast. Prudent men use donkeys to carry their tools, fools carry donkeys and in order to do so sacrifice their tools. It is ludicrous to allow donkeys to build empires, and the uniqueness of the American Dream was that all people are sovereign and that the power of government is least corruptible when it is spread evenly amongst the people, and that the greatness of any nation is defined by the amount of greatness in individuals. If empires must be built, let them be built by individuals alone and without any government assistance, as surely whatever empire gets built in this manner could only extend as far as that individual and their posterity.

If we must fall as a nation, then we will fall because we abdicated our own personal power and surrendered to a confederacy of dunces navigating a ship of fools.
