Global Warming Predictions Are Overestimated, Suggests Study On Black Carbon

www.sciencedaily.com

ScienceDaily (Nov. 25, 2008) — A detailed analysis of black carbon -- the residue of burned organic matter -- in computer climate models suggests that those models may be overestimating global warming predictions.

As a result of global warming, soils are expected to release more carbon dioxide, the major greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere, which, in turn, creates more warming. Climate models try to incorporate these increases of carbon dioxide from soils as the planet warms, but results vary greatly when realistic estimates of black carbon in soils are included in the predictions, the study found.

Soils include many forms of carbon, including organic carbon from leaf litter and vegetation and black carbon from the burning of organic matter. It takes a few years for organic carbon to decompose, as microbes eat it and convert it to carbon dioxide. But black carbon can take 1,000-2,000 years, on average, to convert to carbon dioxide.

OK, flame away! I know that no one can ever be free enough of the debates regarding Al Gore's 'Carbon-Credit' flagship theory - "global warming.' But really, this is just more news which demonstrates just how NOT 'cut and dry' this debate is.

Of course that will not stop the financial engineers from establishing a market in which to profiteer.

Peace.

First of all, the source is not the sewer called ScienceDaily (as even they admit), the source is here:

www.news.cornell.edu...

I have already emailed that Lehmann character the following request/questions on 19Nov08:

Prof. Lehmann (www.css.cornell.edu...) :

In the subject/linked article you are quoted as follows: "We know from measurements that climate change today is worse than people have predicted . . ."

(1) Which "measurements" are you referring to? Are any of your subject/linked article pronoucements based on MBH98?

(2) Which "people" are you referring to? Professor John Christy (former science report author of the IPCC)? Who exactly are you referring to with your use of the vague term "people"?

Indeed, it is well known that during the last ten years (or so), even if you submit to prior utterly flawed/fraudulent pronounments, that honest measurements clearly indicate that the planet is cooling, and rapidly. This reality is also well-known and even, of late, recognized by the political organization called the IPCC. One of many references on-this-point is here:

www.theaustralian.news.com.au...

Alternatively, there are very learned/honest people who take a non-polemic but diametrically opposed view (in-terms-of the tone of your pronouncements), see Dr. Madhav Khandekar's forwarded article here:

www.heartland.org...

(3) Also, you will note that the CC article refers to carbon dioxide as:

"the major greenhouse gas"

As you are fully aware, that characterization is not even close to true; indeed it is absurd. It is well-known that water vapor is thee major greenhouse gas. In terms of heat capacity, the gas methane, another natural constituent of the atmosphere, dwarfs carbon dioxide. As you are fully aware, the contribution to the so-called "Greenhouse Effect" from carbon dioxide is almost unmeasurable by-comparison to these other two constituents. Is it your intention to correct the article, or at the very least inform the CC article author of this fundamental error?

Paul Sheridan

No response, but I will call Lehmann shortly.

Coming soon a carbon tax on everything you buy. There will be a tax on items based on the amount of carbon was released in the atmosphere while making the product. There will a be carbon tax put on the car you drive based on emissions and a carbon tax for heating your home. You will have to pay this tax every year. It is a scam. Al Gore is a fraud.

Meteorologists can't get the weather forecast right a week in advance but we are all to believe that they can predict what the weather will be like 20 years from now. Give me a break.

Don't forget the tax on all C02 emissions.
Including breathing out.

Cant afford to breath out?
Oh well die.

The death of our ability to "produce" through the eliminaton of our resource industries can be directly linked to the UN summit in Rio agenda 21. The "global warming" lie can be sourced from the U.N. summit in Kioto.
Globalist manipulating man...simple, clear, truth.

Global warming - now we are paying environmental taxes it means that we are having the weather licenced to us !

What I find really funny is how misleading the title of the story is.

Global Warming Predictions Are Overestimated, Suggests Study On Black Carbon

When in fact, it clearly says that results vary depending on the soils composition.

"It's a mistake to look at soil as one blob of carbon," said Lehmann. "Rather, it has different chemical components with different characteristics. In this way, soil will interact differently to warming based on what's in it."

plainly a sensationalist title, I think that website should be ashamed
