I do notice the clicking rhythm you describe, even when my phone is off. I usually assume it's from next door or across the street, maybe even someone in a car driving by.
Some people say the waves from phones are pretty harmful, it makes me wonder how safe all these waves/signals flying around are.

Common sense tells you that they wouldn't be sold if they were't safe, assuming "they" aren't intentionally trying to hurt us.

Mobile transmissions are in the low microwave range 872–960 MHz and 1710–1875 MHz and have 1 milliwatt per squared centimetre (mW/cm2) from the handset during peak transmission.

In an environment such as your home, there might be defective wiring, or a heavily laden electric socket which may cause a large electric field. Low power microwave signals will propagate in this environment with marginally increasing power densities and interfere with household electronic goods. So it is quite possible that is a neighbour two houses down that is causing your problem.

More interestingly, if you have one of those air ionisers next to your entertainment centre and the equipment is in use or maybe on standby, with the accompanied magnetic field, microwaves will be sporadically produced.

If you have wifi or your neighbour has, the effects on you loudspeakers will be similar to what your mobile phone produces.

There is an increasing amount of research emerging that both wifi and mobile phones are serious health hazards and the authorities know this but will not do anything. Several years ago, the UK government sold 20/50? year rights for these frequencies to mobile phone providers for about three trillion pounds. Any campaigner on these hazards will get a visit from some scary people.

Incidentally, the people to call will be OFCOM or the Environmental Health Agency but you will find that they will bounce you around between each other. No one wants to handle this hot potato since responsibility to resolve it will land on them - permanently. The solution is shield paints on party walls and primary rooms in your house, ie bedrooms, living-rooms.

Even with your phone switched off it relays data of some kind, I dont know why. But when I keep mine on the desk (turned off) it interferes, so I end up throwing it on the bed.

Also I get interference sometimes if a taxi drives past my house. The most likely explanation I can think of, is that some radio enthusiast in your street has got themselves a ham or CB radio set up recently. If you go into your back yard and look at the houses up and down the street, you might notice a long straight antenna looking thing installed on one of them.

Common sense tells you that they wouldn't be sold if they were't safe, assuming "they" aren't intentionally trying to hurt us.

Must be a luxury to be that naive.

On a packet of sugar it doesn't say that it'll rot your teeth but it does. There are plenty of things which, over a long period will do us harm. Some have anecdotal or circumstancial evidence, some have solid evidence. Using your own brain to figure out what's good for you is the order of the day here. If you're willing to take the chance that using a mobile for extended periods is ok just because some company wants to sell phones then I think that's pretty naive. Hurting us intentionally isn't the deal here, I'm pretty sure it's just about money. Just like the way companies still sell cigarettes knowing it kills people.

Assuming passing microwaves through your brain is safe because it doesn't make you fall over immediately and die is in my opinion utter folly.
