See, and this is where my frustration (and much of the rest of us) stems from.
You are ABSOLUTELY correct, that this is the way
things are SUPPOSED to be done, and the way that has made our system the envy of literally the
rest of the world.
Unfortunately, as we have seen over the past several years, over and over and over again---That system has been entirely compromised. The system of
"checks and balances", as it was set up to be, is no longer functioning as it was set out to be. The congressional body is now nearly irrelevant, as
they have refused to enforce any type of accountability across the board on a whole host of issues regarding both foreign and domestic policies, many
of these being direct CRIMES and violations of the Geneva convention (International law) and Constitution (Domestic law).
The aforementioned invasion on false premises, torture, the passage of the patriot act, warrantless wire-tapping and spying of american citizens under
the fallacy of the "war on terror" are all shining examples of laws that have been broken and signed off on by not only Bush and his criminal cabal,
but a large portion of the congressional body.
This creates a problem. Now the same body that is supposed to ensure checks and balances and presidential power monoplolies is no longer doing so out
of being guilty of signing off on the same criminal enterprises themselves.
This creates quite the conundrum.
How does justice get served when nearly EVERYONE is guilty of the same crimes? How does an entirely corrupt system police itself?
These are the problems facing us, and the whole world at large right now.
