When it comes down to it is the victim's word against the officers which opens plenty of doors for abuse. Any corrupt cop can easily say I smelt
"marijuana" on the driver. It's just that if you have an ideology that all cops are crooked and corrupt don't give them an opportunity to harass
you.

Based on the experiences of my life, I want cameras rolling when I deal with these people.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Modern "law enforcement" (war on drugs, war on terror, war on liberties) is the very defination of that
expression. These people are serving and protecting the wrong elements of our society.
The corruption rate is far higher than a few percent......
I was born into a family (both sides) of cops and firefighters. Some of them were honest, hard-working, and above reproach in the way they worked.
Some of them were as corrupt as the day is long, and at family gatherings, the stories of harassment and theft and planting evidence would curl your
hair! And the good ones who heard the same stories at these family gatherings? They just walked away and kept their mouths shut ... because, in the
end, they're all BROTHERS. In my mind, the ones who heard and didn't speak up are just as compliant in the crimes as the ones who committed them and
bragged about them. I was just a kid, and had no credibility, or I would have turned them in, myself.
I was so GLAD to get away from all of them when I left for college. And I never went home again.
Corruption really IS far more prevalent than most people know, and the racism against those who aren't white seems to have gotten no better, over the
years. When the departments began hiring Latinos and African-Americans, you'd think things would have leveled out. But everyone, regardless of race
and color, when they have "the power," are eager to exercise their "power" over whomever they consider "lesser" than they are.
