What Is That?: Callers, Air10 Spot UFO Over Sacramento (with video)

SACRAMENTO, CA - News10 often receives calls from those who spotted something unusual in the night skies. It's not nearly as common for those calls to be backed up by our own Air10.

While shooting Friday Night Football highlights over Sacramento, Air10 pilot Ed Georges and FNF correspondent Angel Cardenas spotted a strange set of lights flying over their helicopter.

Not long after their sighting, several callers phoned the News10 newsroom to report seeing the same phenomenon.

So what is it? Take a look at the video to the right and weight in with your own verdict
It sure looks like it behaved like a UFO...who can tell for sure these days? But I think the video was taken by a news crew.

I decided it was current and interesting enough to share with you guys.

Good find.

The pic on the site is a lot brighter than the one you posted.
Not sure why that is??

It sure looks interesting. And captured by a news team none the less.
Will definately keep an eye on this one and see what else comes up about it.

Very interesting find
I hope that some of the callers who found the time to call reporting to have seen the same thing have also found the time to take some good photos: the video is very interesting and the appearance of the object is totally new to me:
i post some screen-captures

Thanks for sharing

I guess Sacramento shouldn't be all that surprising seeing as how one the first and little talked about cases... 1942 'Battle Of Los Angeles' happened right down the road from there

I think this is awesome that a news team was able to spot and record a sighting, particularly because it used their "powerzoom" lens.

Excellent.

Don't worry, Im sure it'll turn out to be a chinese party lantern and it will be confirmed when a smart skeptic will post a picture of some random night shot of a balloon therefore conclusively proving its nothing...right

Thanks for sharing this great find! The lights are spinning so quickly, it looks to me like it is a triangular shape one moment then round the next, odd. Hope some of the folks that left comments on the news site will cough up the still photos they mention taking of it.

This is like the second or third thread about UFO sightings in Sacramento... I thought it was just meteor stuff before. These pics are pretty interesting though

I live in the Sac area, and I still haven't seen any UFOs or meteors myself.

I live near Sacramento in Lincoln, seems like the skys are very active lately. I have not seen anything myself but still.

Another weird thing was the other day while driving home from taking my kids to school, I spotted this weird low thick fog that seem to come out of nowhere because just 30 mins earlier the fog was not there. I had not really seen anything like it, especially in our area. When I got to my street, my whole neighborhood was covered in a thick fog. Once home I took my puppy out to go pee and my five yr old came out and was like why does it smell like hotdogs out here, lol, I could not smell anythbing cuz I am currently sick so I was like uh, lets get in the house haha. Anyways I was just watching Ch3 news and they showed a picture of this low fog coming in downtown Sacramento today and how it was very strange......just like what I saw.

Maybe its "The Mist" haha!

Well that sure is interesting. Good pictures. It just goes to show you that extra terrestrials can't be all bad if they like football.

Sorry Phage, my friends at JPA have the only blimp indiginous to the Sacramento area large enough to mount a light display; and it wasn't flying that night.

Furthermore, if some one were to loft something large enough to be seen in that video, it would have to be flying under a flight plan as it would pose a hazard to other air traffic in the area. Epsecially at night.

Kind of takes the Unidentified out of UFO.

Some one might want to shoot an E-mail to Dale Schornak(Sp?), the evening anchor at News10 (KXTV), to see if he has any additional info.

Dale's a High Power Rocket enthusiast (I think he's earned his multi-stage certificate), and would be in a good position to "debrief" Mr. Cardenas, the reporter who witnessed the object.

Might also be a good idea to request the transcript(s) of any air traffic control (ATC) recordings made ...and radar!

Check with Sacramento International Airport, Sacramento Executive Airport, and Mather Field Commercial (cargo) .

The Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Patrol, the California Highway Patrol, and the UC Davis Medical Center all operate helicopters in the area as well. Perhaps one or more of them might have seen something.

Especially if they had been alerted to the presence of an unknown aircraft in the vicinity by a reliable source, in this case, the pilot of a news copter.

cool. I haven't read the comments yet but very cool. Trustworthy source, unusual light patterns.

When contacted, Federal Aviation Adminstration and Sacramento International Airport spokespeople said they hadn't heard anything about the object and had no idea what the craft could be. A Travis Air Force Base representative said the base had no aircrafts that could be confused with a UFO.
So, there you have it.

The commenters who claim to have seen it say it looks like a saucer/siren with lights around it, spiinning like a top. So this just might be your classic flying saucer type UFO.

Here I thought they don't make those no more.

sounds like it was very high for a blimp tho (seeing as footage was shot from helicopter)? And at indeterminate distance, seems like it'd have to be a big one. I'm guessing something else. I'm pretty impressed with this footage actually.

It isn't a blimp.

YouTube Link

My thought was that it is being viewed from the left side (the red light) and slightly below. The display grid would be distorted from that viewpoint and may appear as randomly flashing lights.

I'm not sure what it actually is but this could fit the bill. Easy for the helicopter pilot to mistake its size and distance, in fact he says:
"Not knowing the size of the object, I couldn't determine how far away we were, but I believe it was some distance away as the image was fuzzy even through the PowerZoom camera."

I'm not sure the local tower would be notified if the display was being used.

Looks to me like a jet comming in for a landing and is currently in a holding pattern..being the airport in Sacramento is usually a very busy one.

Oh and please people, link us to CLEAN websites not littered with advertising and active x BS to try to take over people's computers...thank you.

This is a really decent piece of video. The credibility of the shooters is high, the fact they were airborne makes it even better (lets us know it was at least 1,200+ feet up).

The only "negative" is that there is nothing to ascertain any scale with, would have been great if they could have panned down to a few buildings or other objects of a known size.

In any case, this is a great find and a very decent video.

Excellent stuff and from a good source too. Not sure about the saucer idea. It appears to be a group of ufo orbs in flight formation, the way they go on and off is fairly typical as is the way the pattern continually changes. Occasional kite formation typical. A red orb at the top of the cluster, very often this occurs. It would be interesting to find out what the terrain, geology, water situation etc below the sighting is. Why are these lights above that particular location.

Great stuff Notice the erratic up down left right straight line movement of this thing, that would be some G's to have to put up with in a conventional jet. the movement reminds me of the NELLIS test range camera footage.
