Via the iternet is too dangerous in anyway. It must be done in person, thats the only way to be semi safe. But even then who can you trust?

I have been reading Survival Blog for awhile now.

This will be somewhat a duplication of that, I think.

The massive increase in gun and ammo sales says there is either
a lot of pranoid ppl, or they have been reading all the news from
all countries and playing connect the dots.

I am going to presume the later of the two.

A lot of ppl like to talk about how dumb ppl are on average,
but in general those are the ppl who do not read, and for
ppl to be here on ATS they at least have some interest in reading
at some level.

Too many ppl such as Ron Paul have expressed grave concern,
and so have other ppl for many years.

We are seeing the beginnings of the economic collapse right now.

But they are still trying to hide the magnitude of it and it will still
blow up at some point in the not too distant future:

The 100's of trillions derivatives crisis

Natural events could be yellowstone finally blows its top again.

For east coast folks it could be the Cumbre Vieja.

For central US folks The new madrid fault produced a major earthquake
during the lifespan of the United States.

California is always poised for another major quake, and in the
NW Mt. Rainier is showing a bulge and is likely to be a dread
grey eruption possibly with another lateral blast like Mt. St. Helens.

The reformation of the nation of Aztlan:

www.youtube.com...

I am sure there are many others that I have not listed here.

If you get a chance watch Oliver Stone's JFK and consider it
for where our government is headed.

Look at the videos on youtube with the many Fema camps being
built by KBR-Halliburton that have the barbed wire pointing in
with red, green, and blue zones for ppl.

Old closed Amtrak facilities with brand new 6" high pressure
natural gas mains installed.

FEMA camp with barbed wire pointing in

Decided for yourself if ppl in the past who brought you "Air America"
and "Project Northwoods" are to be totally trusted.

Directive 51

Operation Northwoods

Air America

Rex 84

Garden Plot

So while things may not be that bad now, we all for the most part
admit that we see corruption and bad things happen in our government.

Throughout history most governments have collapsed.

The rampant greed and cronyism has eaten away at the
foundation of our nation and it is becoming unstable.

When militia groups go before the senate and threaten the
US government with open revolt, its time to pause for reflection
at a minimum.

Good Luck to you all !

Czacza,

These sites still do not contain the kind of collaborative information I am aiming for. For example, I grew up in Hocking Hills in Ohio and as a child I would constantly be hiking through the woods with my family. I remember finding this place called Rock House near my home and told myself that if anything were to ever happen I would tell my friends and family to meet there! It is places like these that people could share with their 'network' of friends- not publicly, but with those they are establishing some sort of plan with. It's just an idea, but help me work out the kinks!

Yeah use the online message board or blog to help ppl locate
like minded ppl near them. Then they can collectively get
to know each other in regional groups, but we can all plan our
ways and skills to survive as a large group that will never all meet
face to face.

It is somewhat like that over at survival blog, alot of the good info
is buried a bit though.

So when you're out in the wilderness with no electricity or when wireless transmission is weak how are you going to access this site?

Surely when the "proverbial # hits the fan" Internet would be very, very limited in its accessibility. There would be a lot of people stealing computers also.

I'd suggest a very easy to use UI, with minimal images and download times. Each post would send out critical information, including your current estimated coordinates (there would be a map with lat and long for reference, and you'd click on where you think you are), a time stamp and your name.

It would have to be very minimalistic in its design, and focus on maximizing text on the screen.

Oh, and very, very cool idea. Starred and flagged.

Yes, an offline copy tha can be accessible without electricity is
essential as a russian satellite or chinese satellite can simply
drop a nuke to about 400km above the US and wipe out
any unshielded electronics with a 30" pc of wire connected to it.

When the SHTF even the internet might be taken offline or severely censored so if I were you, I would rely on no one but yourself and prepare yourself Now.

I don't believe it's a good idea to reveal too much about yourself on this site as the PTB could confiscate this material or could very well be profiling/archiving everyone here as you post. I've witnessed a few obvious Trolls here on ATS and other sites of whom always seem to defend the PTB whatever your argument may be. I'm ready for whatever goes down as I've been preparing for a while.
Checklist:

Land: at least 10 acres, preferably with clean/potable water via stream or well with fertile soil to grow your own food and barter/sell the surplus.
Weapons and ammunition. Go to a firing range and get familiar with your weapon of choice.
Acquire a stockpile of non-perishable food.
One could always build a house on their own land if necessary.
These are the basics, though they will prove essential for many in 2009.

Keep in mind that if things de-evolve into nuclear war around the
world as we humans LOVE to kill each other by the millions
based on history.

Then I highly recommend you plan on an underground home,
and the writer Mike Oehler shows how to do it on the cheap.

www.undergroundhousing.com...

The reason I think being underground long term is so
important is it will be 45 degrees cooler on average in
north america and there is just not going to be enough
firewood for everyone to make it in these thin walled houses.

3 ft. of dirt provides protection from fallout and extreme cold.

You will need at least a portion of it setup as a prudent
fallout shelter and that info can be acquired here:

www.ki4u.com

If you want cheap but fairly effective civil defense rad meters they
can be had on ebay for under $100.

The closest call to WW3 we have seen recently was when we
started steering our ships near the coast line of georgia
when the South Ossetia issue was going full tilt.

The next likely close call is if the whole middle east goes up
due to Israel attacking iran like they recently attacked syria
for having a nuclear site in the works.

Good Luck to you all !

I like the idea of having a social network of fellow survivalists but it would need to be done face to face and even then you cant really trust a perosn you just met through a group. As i said, the i dead is a very good one but im not sure how practical it would be without a long period of time.

This is a great idea. I'd sign up. I am trying to develop skills to help my family be self-sufficient and need the help! I am a bloted forty year old raised on video games and Steak 'Ems™, no fatherly input, and I don't want to be useless and tech-dependent. I want to learn to hunt and garden, for enrichment and my kids,, even if the world doesn't end as is so often predicted here. The world never ends. We are going to have to slough through and depend on our wits and one another to make the tomorrow we want out of the today that is handed to us.

Count me in!

I think that would be like drawing a circle around yourself and making yourself a target for rogues and the government who when they run short will come knocking at your door.

I have just been advised that there is a gathering of British survivalists gathering in Birmingham on the 24th/ 25th Jan 2009, its a chapter of the Zombie Squad forum members, I may pop down myself and get involved in the debate.

Agreed. I can't really speak for others but it does seem that some people hold back on this forum while others attempt to be a little more extrovert.

Perhaps it's me but I'm reluctant to flag any of these posts and cringe every time I see a "tell me something specific about your preparations or requirements?"

Who am I kidding? Anyone with half an ounce of determination could gather enough info to find out enough to track me down. I know this. Personally I don't think I'm that important but still, no point in intentionally drawing attention to yourself.

Stay out of the limelight; make yourself as normal as everyone else...
