What kinda skills do I have?.... well lemme think... off the top of my head I've got ...You know, like nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills, computer
hacking skills...
No seriously , I've rated a couple of schools when I was in the Corps , some because of my MOS and some by default because battalion had to fill
billets. (JDUB) Yeah Jungle warfare training is really gonna help me in the Concrete jungle here in Jersey.
I've got enough Beans , Bullets , Band Aids & common sense to get me through most situations. This sounds like a good Idea but I've got a wife and 2
kids to wrangle around should the SHTF and I wouldn't want to have to "babysit" and direct others who didn't have a clue. Personally I'd say my
family's chances of survival would decrease if I was part of a larger group. (think about it) So I'd rather go at it alone. If any of you were in my
area and needed 3 hots and a cot for a day while you were passing through , I'd gladly oblige... just don't get too comfortable.

Greetings again,
I'm planning on putting a lot of energy into this, with that said I'd like to develop this as something more than just a forum. This site should act
more as a utility, than a message board. I have access to secure linux servers that could provide us with temporary hosting for an initial test. I've
been looking at open source social networking software to use as a template for developing our network.

I think it will be taken as some sort of offence by your Government and shut down sooner than later because the benefit it poses to the survivors..
I also wonder what all the internet addicts are gonna do when the # hits the fan... do you think people are honestly gonna care if the governments
been lying about UFO's for years when theres no power and food and water are the most precious commodity?

So when you're out in the wilderness with no electricity or when wireless transmission is weak how are you going to access this site?
Surely when the "proverbial # hits the fan" Internet would be very, very limited in its accessibility. There would be a lot of people stealing
computers also.
I'd suggest a very easy to use UI, with minimal images and download times. Each post would send out critical information, including your current
estimated coordinates (there would be a map with lat and long for reference, and you'd click on where you think you are), a time stamp and your
name.
It would have to be very minimalistic in its design, and focus on maximizing text on the screen.
Oh, and very, very cool idea. Starred and flagged.

If you really want to do a full website then you need to take a good long hard look at Mambo.... Mambo
CMS
you'll need to have php on your server and at least 1 sql data base... you can even create secure places for more elite members to meet and greet

Primary Skill: Computer Programming
Secondary Skills: Bilingual, Cook, fishing
As mentioned earlier, even an email account can be traced back to an IP, and IP traced back to a location. Since I have some background in computer
programming, my first recommendation would be to create an encrypted messaging program of some sort. There would have to be very few developers and
the source code must be secured. That doesn't mean i'm volunteering, it is just a suggestion.

Simple fix, host the website on a secure server outside of the united states. The government can't shut down our website, seeing as that would fringe
upon our constitutional rights - correct me if I'm wrong.

There are a few encrypted messaging programs - I remember one that I was reading about on Hackthissite.org a while back. I'll have to dig it up
again. Nevertheless, if your computer is connected to the internet chances are the government already knows everything about you; however, I do want
to make this as secure as possible.

Mambo is full of security holes, and so are most content management systems. Many of you think the government is the enemy here, and if that is the
case then your just asking for your site to be defaced. A secure website would need to be built from scratch, and even then your still depending on
the security of the webserver.

Though you have a nice idea I fear that you would be targeted by law enforcement as our government has shown that they relate "survivalism" with
militias and they hate and fear militias. During the last congressional interviews with militia people they attempted to goad them by asking "what
would it take for your groups to blow up a building?" You would have "dummy" accounts used to "stir up trouble" in order to accumulate probable
cause and target your users.
Similar to what is done now with child predators, individuals would utilize your site, forums or chat rooms to assemble lists of those they suspect
may be "dangerous" and the raids would begin.
Sorry to say that but I beleive that is the most probable outcome.. plus there would be a few real "fringies / nutjobs" out there who would provide
all the justification needed to ruin you.
Other threats would include gun control groups who would love to volunteer their time and effort to paint your users as whacko crazies and the MSM
would sure to follow suit.
Just my opinion but something to think about.

If one lacks knowledge in a certain area, the internet has your solution. Just Google away and more than likely you'll find what your looking for.
When the SHTF even the internet might be taken offline or severely censored so if I were you, I would rely on no one but yourself and prepare yourself
Now.
I don't believe it's a good idea to reveal too much about yourself on this site as the PTB could confiscate this material or could very well be
profiling/archiving everyone here as you post. I've witnessed a few obvious Trolls here on ATS and other sites of whom always seem to defend the PTB
whatever your argument may be. I'm ready for whatever goes down as I've been preparing for a while.
Checklist:
Land: at least 10 acres, preferably with clean/potable water via stream or well with fertile soil to grow your own food and barter/sell the
surplus.
Weapons and ammunition. Go to a firing range and get familiar with your weapon of choice.
Acquire a stockpile of non-perishable food.
One could always build a house on their own land if necessary.
These are the basics, though they will prove essential for many in 2009.

I don't give the government that much credit, I highly doubt they can keep a record of all internet traffic. At most they might be able to see which
purchases I have made, or even read the odd email I have sent. No database in the world exists to hold all of that data, and even if it did who is
going to have the time to sit down and analyze it all. The best they could do is search for triggers/keywords(bomb, terrorism, threat)
As for the website, I do agree with you on hosting it outside the USA.

If you haven't yet noticed the federal authorities don't much care for survivalist's as a whole. Look at what they did to all of the militias that
were in place back in the 80's and 90's. Most are completely gone now or entirely underground after being infiltrated and many falsely imprisoned or
bankrupted.
Remember Ruby Ridge? Do you really want to bring that kind of hell down upon yourselves? Start mentioning ammo and weapons stockpiling on an internet
forum and see if you dont get a friendly visit from the ATF. Ask Randy Weaver if he wishes he had been more selective in who he dealt with.
I like your idea in principle, but all you would really be doing is keying in the enemy on exactly who you are, what you have and where you can be
found. You will make thir jobs way too easy.

Honestly, there are nutjobs on any site. From here to facebook and ideally it's up to the creators to properly manage and secure the site to ensure
the safety of it's users.

is to create a social networking site for families in order to enable collaborative development of disaster relief programs/plans.

Wouldn't this be counter-productive to "the cause" of survivalist-minded individuals? Sure, you may not ever disclose your final destination,
but "they" still would have a database of all the soon to be "loose ends".
If your intention is to escape, and you believe the "end times" will somehow be intentional and man made, why would you want "them" to know who
you are, before the end times actually happen?
It's irrational, to say the very least.

I like your idea but I really think it would work better on a local level. There are people all over the world here and if martial law were in place
or lack of internet/phone service we would need contacts near by. I also don't like public sharing of information but perhaps letting people know
your general location and have many local networking groups with a common resource would be good.
Just my thoughts.
