Looks like northen lights to me and are pretty common on the skies in the north. Sun stuff hitting the atmosphere and sets of electrical charges...
Kinda.
I've seen northen lights looking like that.
These ones sure look weird though.

I have never seen Northern Lights, so I unfortunately have nothing to compare the pics too.
I thought it was interesting enough to share since so many people from Philadelphia who have seen the Northern Lights before, indicated they were
moving in a very strange up-and-down motion...and indicated it looked like they were being shot down from a spaceship-type thing.

The photos are similar to others posted on several different Philadelphia television news sites.
I would strongly assume they are not photoshopped.

Looks like the Aurora Borealis. Not quite as dramatic as this image.

May I ask how you were able to embed that photo into your post?

One more potential answer:
Nov 20, 2008 7:53 am US/Eastern
Strange Sight Seen In Pa. Night Sky
PHOENIXVILLE (CBS 3) ― Those looking up to the night sky in parts of Pennsylvania Wednesday night may have seen an "otherworldly" sight, but there
could be a real-world explanation.
Strange horizontal clouds in the sky had several CBS 3 viewers in Chester County scrambling for their cameras Wednesday evening.
Many believed the bizarre evening lights in the sky were part of an Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, or even a beautiful meteor
shower. But CBS 3's weather team believes it is something much simpler.
The phenomenon may have been what is known as virga, or streaks of water or ice crystals evaporating before they hit the ground.
If the moonlight hits the streaks just right, it can create a strange sight in the sky.
Thanks to all of those who sent in their tips and photos. If you are an iWitness to a strange phenomenon, click the link below to let us know.

Virga needs to have clouds above it. Some of those shots seem to have clear sky above.

I don't wish to become a doomsayer here, so please don;t think that.
These lights look like Earth lights, or Earthquake lights, they are seen almost every time there is about to be an Earthquake.
Earthquake lights
I read a thread earlier today about Government officials giving warnings about massive Earthquakes, I cant remember where exactly, I think I remember
the New Madrid Fault Lines? probably wrong i'm really tired.
But if someone can look a little deeper, this could be the answer, and folk need to know.
They have been seen and spoken about on C2C according to the above Wikipedia page, a little way down from the top it says
On the 2008-07-29 edition of Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, geologist Jim Berkland as well as a caller reported seeing earthquake lights a week
before the 2008-07-29 Chino Hills earthquake.

FEMA announced yesterday that the New Madrid Fault Line in the midwestern portion of the United States is definitely overdue for a massive quake.
On Coast to Coast AM with George Noory last night, there was mention of a major earthquake due December 12 or 13, 2008.
Quake Update
First hour guest, geologist Jim Berkland spoke about earthquakes. There's an 85% probability of seismic activity during the window of Dec. 12 -13th,
2008, due to a full moon and very high tides, he said. Normally active areas such as the West Coast would be the likeliest locations for earthquakes
during this time.

This certainly could be related to the lights then?
Judging by the lights, the pictures look like they are taken on a long shutter speed, but it cant change the fact, those lights are there, are they a
result of a Magnetic build up and Geological pressure?

I really wish I knew. I would love to hear from an observer in the Philadelphia-Pennsylvania area to share his/her insight.
Local meterologists claim the beams of light were from ice crystals reflecting/refracting light.
Witnesses claim the beams of light were coming up and down repeatedly and that there were hundreds of them.
Some conspiracy theorists assert it points to HARP (confidential governmental blue-beam project).

I'm glad somebody from the area was able to confirm these pics. Did you by chance see the bright beams of light on Tuesday or Wednesday evening?
