Are you serious? You really don't understand that since someone with 35% body fat (also referred to as BMI or "Body Mass Index") is considered
OBESE, and that an OBESE person is statistically at 2x to3x the chance of dying prematurely, than the person with 7% body fat (who is NOT obese)?
See, you're airline seat argument evaporated, and you've now turned this into a thread about whether or not it's healthy to be obese. There are
some pretty far out topics on ATS, I think this is the first of it's kind however.
Of all the outlandish claims made on this website, I never thought I'd see someone claim an obesity poses no health risks.
Yes, I've actually read the research and written extensively on it.
You can have a body fat percentage of 35% be physically fit and very healthy. You can have a body fat percentage of 7% and smoke, have cancer, AIDS
and drink excessively.
Body fat percentage IN AND OF ITSELF is no predictor of health.

Not trying to start something but arent boby fat % and BMI two different things? As I understand it your BF% and BMI would probaly be two different
numbers even though they might indicate the same condition.

I saw this too, it's ridiculous. It doesn't take much intelligence to realize why this isn't right, it's quite simple. It's a plane! A plane has
weight restrictions which are enforced through *gasp* assigning units of seating. If someone's immense ass is overflowing the sides of the seat,
he's over the limit, take a bus.
Besides potentially being a safety issue if there's enough obese people on a single flight, it's extremely unpleasant for everyone in their
vicinity. I don't want half of someones ass on my seat nor do I want their arm flab slapping me in the face during turbulence.
The solution will be equally as simple, change the language of the ticket sales from "per person" to "per seating unit". I bet it doesn't take a
year to happen.

Since some people seem to not get it.. This is what many of us are saying. No matter if you are obese, tall, muscular, or whatever - if you take up
two seats, you should by two tickets.

Do you think that a government file on this case would be classified "above top secret?" No way. Go post in a "news no one cares about" forum.
This site is for conspiracies. I hate looking at the top stories and seeing crap like this taking up space.

Actually thats no where near what was intended. I just picked a image of something that obviously would not fit in a single seat.
So I guess I'm comparing tall people and muscular people to hippos as well?
I could have put a ride-on lawnmower there for all it matters, but then you'd probably complain that im comparing obese people to a john deer
tractor.

Dear God, you honestly don't see how grouping people with hippos - regardless of your intended meaning behind the image - could possibly be
offensive?
No wonder it's impossible to have a rational debate about this sort of thing. You can't bring it up in public without people coming along who just
won't think before they speak.

Just last month I boarded a plane for a flight from Tokyo To Bangkok.
I was supposed to have the isle seat (of 3).
I assume they were Sumo wrestlers.
The isle seat no longer existed!
The plane was fully booked.
I had to catch the next available flight.
I waited 9 hours.
But they were happy, jovial people.
And they probably didn't miss their connecting flight.

Why is a court, deciding how fully privatised corporations should charge their customers? That's what I want to know. Maybe an overweight person
should go to court demanding two pizzas for the price of one, after all, 'one-person-one-charge'. If these idiots do not like it, they should go
start their own airline.

Well I've been browsing ATS for years and only recently became a member this summer, And it is annoying to see this on a conspiracy site a
little.....I guess its alternative topics but this is just another story from problems from a disfunctional society lol
But anyways,
There needs to be a correction to adjust to the ailments of our rise in obesity. Set new standards on foods we let out on market. Un-nutritious foods
flood the market, look at a convienant store, It's my estimation that 80 percent of the products sold there are junk, and only help compound the
problem with obesity.
However, they're should be a disabled section of the plan to allow for occurences of such problems untill we can solve the epidemic. We are here to
help eachother and to support one another, not to lay blame or deny ignorance. We can all do are part by not supporting unhealthy foods even being
allowed onto the market and by taking an obese friend exercising.
Peace

Must chime in in support of, If you require two seats, you must pay for two seats. I don't really care who or what you are, you need to pay for two.
Or stay home. And I'm not a "fat basher" as I'm 40 LBS overweight myself.
Of course someone with a medical reason, I can't argue against them. Airlines should have to have a few larger seats for the medically obese, but if
you have no medical reason,,, PAY BABY PAY!

MMMk buddy. Well , if you want conspiracy, I suggest going to one of the many numerous sections of this site. this particular section of ATs happens
to be devoted to alt. news.. and this thread , devoted to fat obese people taking up two seats and only paying for one
but you knew that being a long time lurker and all

Reminds me of the gays complaining that eHarmony only matches men with women, so they complained and had a court ORDER a PRIVATE company to change
their business model. If somewhere doesn't offer something you want, go somewhere else.
Now, I do believe there should be specific seats for morbidly obese people. Nothing is worse then having a fat body invading your comfort zone, be it
on a plane, train, or bus. But, how do they know how many obese people will be getting on the plane? Simplest solution obviously would be make them
pay for however many seats they take up, but people dont understand that.
Also, couldn't it be considered a safety hazard having someone so fat that they do not fit in the seat correctly? What if there was a situation where
the plane was experiencing turbulence, and an obese body caused injury to the person they are "sharing" a seat with? Thats a lot of weight to be
throwing around, and it would be even more dangerous if it happened to be a child sitting next to someone like that.
archives.cnn.com...
Barbara Hewson, 63, was offered damages by Virgin Atlantic after suffering a blood clot, torn leg muscles and sciatica following a flight to Los
Angeles in January 2001, the UK's Press Association reported.
She said the woman passenger was so large she had to sit with the arm rests up, but when she complained, the crew said there was nothing they could do
as the plane was full.
What a horrible situation for that poor lady..
Or, they could just create larger seats due to the increasing girth of the worlds populations.. but that would require money, and the loss of
available seating room - which means even more loss of money, so I doubt that would ever happen.

I think this is just another part of an overall massive conspiracy. At some point, actions like this will have a backlash effect, such as I see in
some of the comments on this thread. More of the ol' "divide and conquer" method of controlling the populace, and keep us focused on petty issues
while the planet slowly suffers. Call me paranoid; I just see this as one more step in a gigantic 'plan'.

OK, i have only read the first few posts on this thread, so i may be out of context, and in some peoples minds, out of order.
But.....I have a friend who WAS 42 stone in weight, and I used to do all his housework for him, we all did stuff for him, go to the shop, post his
mail, make his dinner! One day a few of us got together and i was told not to do it, make him do it himself, etc etc.............
It was out of concern, concern for his weight, if he started doing it for himself he may learn valuable lesson, lose weight, and he did.
Because we refused to help him, because we shamed him, he went and got a ballon in his stomach, then a gastrict band, extreme i know, but it was an
eating disorder. Now, 16 stone lighter, he is doing everything for himself, and we are proud of him.
The moral of the story is, if someone is so obese it is dangerous for them, be unkind, dont help them, charge them two seats instead of one, dont do
stuff for them, shame them, make them realise being big isn't good ( i know this thread is more about the money maker cashing in, im just trying to
make a point) because anything that helps them to realise they need to lose weight is a good thing, i thank god that my friend, my best friend, is now
losing the weight that in the end, was gonna kill him.
Maybe the companys charing extra for seats is about money, but it still drives a message home.
Peace.
