Jewish Cartoons Mock Christians

www.rense.com
The comics displayed by Forward exploit anti-Christian suspicion and paranoia among volatile and even unstable segments of Judaism. They not only fuel heighten anti-Christianity but could even stimulate violence against Christians. Such violence and persecution against Messianic Jews by ultra-Orthodox in Israel is already tolerated by the Israeli government, local governing bodies, and most Israelis.

I am an American Christian. I am grieved that American Christians apparently come across this way to some Jewish people. Obviously some things have been said and done in a cavalier manner to alienate Christians from Jewish people in the Holy Land, and this makes me sad.

I think the cartoonists have pretty much pegged the "Left Behind" crowd, who have a very superficial understanding of eschatology (what they have been told will happen in the end times) which doesn't really stand up to much scrutiny. Some Christians are all too happy to share their cookie-cutter faith and, having been insulated and surrounded by Christian culture for so long and to such a degree that they have lost touch with how offensive their views might be to others.

On the other hand, I hold many of the beliefs being ridiculed and yet I am not offended by the cartoons. It is easy to understand the cartoonist's mis-characterization of these beliefs; certain Christian beliefs ARE somewhat confrontational, controversial, intolerant, and YES, offensive. The Bible says people were offended at Jesus, too. So how can we be angry at people for being offended at us, even when we are being as respectful as possible of their beliefs? It is a natural outgrowth of our beliefs that people will be offended. Our job is to be full of gentleness and respect in spite of our differences. Isn't that everyone's job? All over the planet?

So what has actually changed in the past 2000 years? The biggest issue here may be the cavalier, plastic American manner in which the Gospel is being presented in modern times. It comes off sounding, well, American, phoney and insincere. No wonder they feel the way they do.
