Intelligence report from 1997 predicted Saddam gone by 2010

Topic started on 21-11-2008 @ 07:19 AM by detective_gray

Just reading on BBC News about the new NCI US global trends report however this nugget of information of the 1997 report, intrigued me.

And I noticed that, on Iraq, it correctly said that Saddam Hussein would be gone.

I havent been able to look at the report yet but my understanding was that Saddam was pretty much in complete control of Iraq so it seems a bit of a weird prediction to make. Anyone able to make sense out of it?

Thanks thats actually sorta cool and yet so very wierd...

The report says that the Western model of economic liberalism, democracy and secularism "may lose its lustre". The implication of that is we will hear less about democracy as a way of justifying policy than we have in recent years.

For some reason this stuck out the most. "hear less about democracy", now thats interesting.

Thanks for Posting..
