Verizon staff had unauthorized access to Obama's cell

www.reuters.com

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless said on Thursday that some employees had gained unauthorized access and viewed a personal cell phone account held by President-elect Barack Obama that is now inactive.

An Obama aide said his voice-mail messages and e-mails were not breached in the incident.

"We were notified yesterday that employees had accessed the records of an old cell phone no longer in use," the Obama aide said. "No voice or e-mails were listened to or read."

The company said the device in question was a simple voice phone, not a Blackberry or other device designed for e-mail or other data services.

In a statement, Verizon Wireless President and Chief Executive Lowell McAdam apologized to Obama and said all employees who had had access to Obama's account, whether authorized or not, were put on immediate leave with pay.

All employees with access put on paid leave?

Isn't that what happens when a Police Officer shoots someone?

What in the world is up?
If the President elect can't have secure connections due to service provider snooping, then what should we expect for the Citizens?

I think they should all be tried under spying. Put them in prison with the CEO's who jacked all the funds.

My dear sir you are either up way too late like myself or up too early! I just saw this too and was not very surprised. If I was working at Verizon I would be tempted to snoop on high profile figures too.

"I think they should all be tried under spying"

So just fry the small fish and let all the big ones go?

You know Obama will be illegally listening to all our calls - spying on every minutia in our lives.

If you take that out of content.
I did mention the bad CEO's along with them. I suppose that would include all the white collar thieves who commit crimes with no consequence.

Oh come on guys...its not that bad..

I guarantee what happened was someone was thumbing through the file listing program (probably some small town, outsource call center worker) saw Obamas name, accessed the account, and looked at his information. All those things show is name, address, number, plan, and the last 4 digits of the billing card.

That cat then told all his friends around him and they accessed that account and looked at the same thing to verify.

I used to work for Earthlink, Amp'd mobile, and RCN and I know several folks who did the same thing to other famous customers. Nothing to get excited about. There isn't any "super secret" information on those systems.

IT department folks snoop all the time. Telling a geek not to access something or that they can't is a red flag. There are lots of ways to look at files and data traffic.
