Oh and it is all somehow Roxie's fault because various trolls say so.

Thats it in a nutshell.

If you want to see it... there is a full video footage in the resource link.

I personally think this is sad.

Would like to hear what you guys think of this??? and do you think it will increase since the U.S and many other countries are going down under,

I would like to hear what you think about this story and what would you do if something similar happens else where and you happened to come across a user that does a similar thing.

This is horrible, but I feel that the 19 year old had more issues going on than just being "pumped up" on a message board to do it.

There are some people out there that seriously need help, but don't get it. It's quite sad.

I can see more of this sort of thing happening. Just wanted to give my 2 cents and bump your thread.

"do it f*****" is a classic response to suicide threads on 4chan.org.

Normally they are trolls just trying to be funny, even though it's not. But every once in a while you get someone who is serious, and when they get hundreds of replies telling them to do it some of them go through with it instead of getting help. It's a sad story but what's more sad is that people actually encouraged him to do it instead of telling him to get help.

Mod Edit: Circumvention of the censors in this case alone is allowed as it is a relevant communication of internet lexicon and not a reference to a particular human.

Well, first off. I'm a member of bodybuilding.com forums and only post in the misc. It's an interesting forum, to say the least. The stunts pulled here can be unimaginable... So don't get your panties in a bunch just yet. Let's wait until some real evidence rolls in, shall we...

The guy's here are willing to do almost anything in order to get some attention. That is what makes the misc so infamous.

FTR I haven't logged on the past few days so I wasn't aware of this story until now. I'm searching for the original thread now as well as other reports.

watched the vid kinda reminds me of that one movie that was kind of like this whole scenario ... except for the more hits the site got the closer the person would get to death ... UNTRACEABLE ... haha that's it ... it just popped in mi head .... except for in this scenario it was replies that got the person closer and closer to death ... until he killed himself

Well, from the reports I am finding it looks like a legitimate case.

The active posts in the misc are mostly relative to this story. It appears the site was down most of the day. I still have not located the original thread.

Here are a couple of links...

money.cnn.com...

news.cnet.com...

These guys can be real pricks and don't take things very seriously. This kid already had intentions to kill himself and he probably knew that coming to the misc would be a great place to grasp attention on the internet. But what's the use of attention when you're dead...

I'm glad ATS enforces the T&C for civility. Don't think we'll see any of that here for which I am thankful.

Sad end for a young man. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.

I feel more sorrow for the man’s family and friends than I do him. If it sounds cruel so be it but I have seen the affects of suicide on family and friends. I think it is a selfish thing to do.

It is sad the guy did it but he wanted this so he got it. It is bad that others antagonized him “to do it” though I sort of doubt it took the posters to give him “courage” enough to do it. But as another poster said they most likely did not take him serious. The waiting so long to do something is sort of strange though I could see people waiting a few hours in case he took some sleeping pills. From the position it would have been difficult to see if he were breathing lightly or not.

Again though I feel for his family and friends.

Oy.

The internet does bring us together...but sometimes it brings us together in the wrong way.

Poor kid. His suicide note is heartbreaking...

This is sad and guess what i am not going to click on any links or watch/read about anything on this. I dont want to feed the trolls. I dont support it and think its not right to watch it. The more people feed this, the more other kids will try it.
really sad though.

That is strange, that is the same area where the kid who killed himself after reading the book "old world secrets the omega project codes" was from. Maybe there is to much of something in the water there?

When did people become that cruel?

Stories like that just don't make any sense.

Human beings have lost their way.

I would never watch the video, but I did go read the suicide note. I can't believe anything that boy did in his short life really made him the bad person he described himself to be. This is how depression alters a person's reality. I really feel bad for his family and friends. I was taught to never treat suicidal ideations as a joke. Always take it seriously. I am not saying the posters were at fault- it is very possible he would have done it regardless. But now all those posters who made jackass comments and the ones who watched and knew and didn't hit the "alert" button (even reporting it as "inappropriate" would have gotten attention from a mod) have this on their conscience. He laid there for hours- an immediate report might have saved him. This really is very heart-breaking.

Well that just goes to show you that you really shouldn't care all that much about people on web boards. If being on a web board makes you feel unhappy, leave. You've got your real friends in the real world. Why waste emotion on people that aren't even your real friends (or enemies).

I agree but some people have trouble separating reality from the internet (not fully reality).

I myself am bias in my opinion of suicide though and consider the weak minded to only really be those affected. Not that I don’t feel some sympathy for the guy but really he got what he wanted. I do though feel for his family and friends who will have to live with this thinking maybe they somehow added to this or caused it in some way.

I think if more people could really see how things would be after they committed such an act there would be far less people killing themselves.

I am not at all surprised this happened. Both the victim and the other forum members probably have pre-existing psychological issues.

The trolls have an unrealistic sense of humor, difficulty with separating reality from virtual reality, and the inability to assess the seriousness of a situation.

The victim, like many suicide victims, are desperate for attention.

Although the internet has desensitized me to the point that something like this doesn't even phase me, it is interesting to think about the legal implications this may carry with it.

Can this be considered assisted suicide? If so, will each one of the people involved be prosecuted as such? Is this moral to do so? Is it legal to do so?
