The Domino Effect Scenario
A faulty switch burns out at a power station during a nasty winter storm. Heavy snow and ice causes telephone poles and power lines to fall.
Randomly, small towns across the US start going dark. No electricity or phone service. Being effectively cut off from larger towns and cities, the
townspeople start coming up with theories. Days pass with no word from the outside, small bands go off in search of answers and fears mount. A few
trigger happy folk start taking matters into their own hands, taking through force; supplies and sustenance.
The breakdown, like a cancer, spreads outward. More trigger happy folk get into the fray. Looting and arson start on the outskirts of larger towns
and cities. People start hoarding food and supplies as officials try to restore law and order. Gangs and groups of armed people roam neighborhoods
looking for food and supplies, using violence when necessary.
People start fleeing the once densely populated cities as food becomes scarce. New gangs, groups and alliances are formed. Some groups start settling
into farm land and try to survive, others survive by looting the farmers.
Many densely populated areas become walled cities, with officials claiming their right to rule those within the walls. Outlying farmland is taken over
by these walled cities and worked by the enslaved population who are watched over by the police and military who once swore to protect their rights
and liberties.
Territory skirmishes over resources breakout between these walled cities, roaming gangs and nomads.
The breakdown slowly spreads to other nations and within a few years, civilization on earth has reverted back to more primitive times.
