Under Worm Assault, Military Bans Disks, USB Drives

The Defense Department's geeks are spooked by a rapidly spreading worm crawling across their networks. So they've suspended the use of so-called thumb drives, CDs, flash media cards, and all other removable data storage devices from their nets, to try to keep the worm from multiplying any further.

IN most cases where security is paramount, you would think they would have the latest and greatest anti-virus software.

I know they want to stop spreading the worm, but it boggles the mind to find out how vulnerable they actually are. Their enemies must be rubbing their hands and licking their lips in anticipation.

I tell you, my husband since working with the new security programs that has been passed in the military bases sine 9/11 he said that systems crash all the time.

Even with the new security cards that is the only way to power up your work station is nothing but problems, sometimes once the system crash it takes days to get it fix and that's lost of money on government time.

Then the systems are so out dated that most computers are still running on Microsoft 2000, then recently it was a big upgrade to xp and my husband computer could not handle the upgrade and now he has been down for the last two days waiting for the computer to be fixed.

People think that the military has the newest and best gadget but they are nothing than old crappy equipment running on outdated software.

I guess all the money is spent on creating things that make large impressive explosions.

Technology is the mechanism that has made the US Forces faster and more agile than most other military forces, but it seems that in a conventional war, it will be the troops on the ground doing the dirty work, as it has been for thousands of years.
Their commanders might think they have their finger on the button, but it seems the button won't work. Abort/Retry/Fail.
