Classic example of gun-grabber lunacy

Topic started on 20-11-2008 @ 07:20 AM by thisguyrighthere

The situation:

In most Maryland counties, modern handguns may be used to hunt deer. Any modern handgun used for deer hunting must have a barrel length of 6 inches or more.

Muzzleloading handguns --both single shot and revolvers -- may be used to hunt deer in all counties. Muzzleloading handguns used for deer hunting must be at least .40 caliber in size with a barrel length of at least 6 inches.

The gun-grabbers:

The Freedom States Alliance is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to reducing gun-related deaths and injuries through public awareness campaigns. According to the FSA Web site, .50 caliber guns have effective ranges up to 2,000 yards, or 20 football fields laid end to end. Deer hunters typically shoot at ranges of 150-200 yards.

"We don't support this change," said Scott Vogel, communications director of FSA. "A .50-caliber handgun can easily puncture a police officer's vest."

and:

The Humane Society of the United States worries not only about the safety of the hunter but of the deer. The group worries that deer shot by handguns would suffer needlessly.

"If the hunters were truly interested in a quick and painless death for the deer, they would not use a handgun," said Casey Pheiffer, campaign manager of the Wildlife Abuse Campaign for the Humane Society.

So which is it? Are the handguns too powerful or not powerful enough?

It's more than obvious neither the Humane Society or the ironically named "Freedom States Alliance" know jack about firearms or ballistics and most likely nothing at all about physics. The one thing they both know however is guns are bad and any chunk they can bite out is a good chunk to them.

Just ridiculous.

They're obviously two different organizations. Why would you expect them to agree? Also, I see no problems with their ballistic or physics knowledge.

So you share the "as long as the ban is approved" attitude?

A .50 ball from a muzzle loader isnt going through a vest. It'll break some ribs and probably make the guy wish he was dead but it isnt going through a vest.

It's obvious that one group believes handguns are magic and launch a mythical projectile into infinity while another group believes handguns shoot BB's and would require the hunter to creep up point blank and empty a clip into the deer no doubt while holding the gun tilted in his wrist while listening to 50 Cent on his iPod.

Two grossly conflicting views on the same subject should by all rights cancel themselves out. The truth is nowhere to be found in either organizations argument.

Wait wait wait wait wait. Hold it right there, the organization talking about muzzle loaders was NOT the one talking about the penetrating power of a .50 round. I personally pictured a .50 Desert Eagle, which I'm pretty sure "would" pop a vest. How can what two separate and distinct organizations say cancel each other out? It just doesn't work that way man! You seem to have some kind of bunker mentality when it comes to guns. Vigilance is great and all but unless you're Randy Weaver, calm down a bit guy.

A .50 cal ball is not the same as a .50 Action Express I'll give you that. The article doesnt mention 50AE and it goes from talking about the handguns used being muzzleloaders right into the FSA's bit about vests. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the article is missing something.

If something gets banned for two completely different and prejudiced reasons I have a problem with that. It's succumbing to mob rule. Not just any mob but an idiots mob that cant get its story straight.

I should add either because I was at an impressionable age when Vicki got shot or because I spent the early Clinton years hating my parents for telling me what to do and how to do it or for whatever psycho-babble reason, whenever anyone remotely linked to the Clintons is around we're all members of the Weaver family.

My bad, reading comprehension -- . Thought the two paragraphs were from two different articles. My apologies.
