As for the cordite smell, the one problem with equating this with any explosives or missiles or whatever, is this: Cordite was used in the British
Navy for their cannons. It was never used in the US (save for the explosives in the two A-bombs dropped on Japan). Other than that, Cordite has never
been used for any missiles/bombs/guns/etc in the US military.
However, there are other sources that can smell like cordite. For one thing, imagine how much stuff was burning in the crash site. You have fuel,
plastics, wood, people, paper, you have pulverized concrete, steel, god only knows what else.
Since cordite was used in the British Navy and this was WAAAAY back in WWI-WWII, I highly doubt any cordite was used here.
