There is ALOT of occult symbolism in the Dark Knight movie. Obviously the pentagram we see here can be argued as a natural accident. However, including it artfully into the mise-en-scene, then claiming to have not noticed it, would be a lie.

The Joker is the zero card of the tarot trumps. He is the cross-over card between the upper and lower arcana. Symbolising the trickster, or anti-christ, alike Loki in Norse myth, Marduk in Sumerian, and Ra in Egyptian, the Joker conjoins the two supernal-most sefirot, yet is enfused by them with the descent into matter of spirit. Ultimately, the joker is a symbol of blindness.

The bat is an older, deeper cultural symbol, featuring primally in S. American time-keeping, as the month day Zotz (seen below Pacal Votan on the lid of his sarcophagus), and originally seen in African, Haitian and Carribean Yoruba, as Zangbeto (a form of Orisha Egungun).

an "Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" review thread of mine on "Below Top Secret" forums:

As far as the death of Heath Ledger, I confess I don't know more about it than what I read online:

The report concludes, in part, "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine." It states definitively: "We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications."... The official announcement of the cause and manner of Ledger's death heightened concerns about the growing problems of prescription drug abuse or misuse and Combined Drug Intoxication (CDI).

The Trickster and the Fool are two entirely different archetypes.

If you're going to call them "archetypes," you'll be forced to admit they cannot be entirely exclusive of one another, and that, like meanings in a dream, are, by nature, definitively blended and merged, etc. etc. etc. Blah Blah Blah.

You're mistaken to confuse the two.

~SIGH~ By your own egoistic aggression you prove my point for me. I have no point to prove, so I do not care if you believe I am "right." But you believe I do?

The Fool (0 Major Arcana) is more closely tied to the Hero of Joseph Campbell's writings at the beginning of his journey.

Insofar as Joseph Cambell's writings follow the "Hero's Journey" chronologically, and insofar as the "Hero" is relative to the main character, or subject, of the entire transformative progression by alpha-numeric sequence of the major arcana of tarot, and insofar as the "fool" card occurs "primally" in the major arcana's sequential set, and insofar as Joseph Cambell's writings can be likened and compared to the tarot's major arcana set in all these ways, yes. That is true.

The Trickster ALWAY has as his underlying goal the intent to deceive, while the Fool survives his naiveté through blind luck.

Again, insofar as they differ, that's true. However, the similarities, as I proposed initially, are no less nor moreso "right" or "wrong" than your own interpretation.

My only complaint with your post is that you say I am wrong, when in good faith, you cannot prove that claim.

Personally I find the language of myths as abstract "archetypes" in a "collective un-, sub- or conscious" a too easily manipulated medium to be in disagreements over.

PEACE.
