Interesting. This could go along with many people's beliefs that people in power are not elected, but pre-selected. Sort of like the infamous picture of Nixon, Reagan and Kissinger all sitting at the table together well before Reagan was president.

This seems unlikely also, because people that much in the know would be quite a bit above buying web domains against the canidates. It's almost too childish and pointless to be anything but some random squatter and for all we know it could have been a local who didn't like him at a different point in his political career, perhaps trying to get rid of him as a senator?
