Homer, I really like the way you stated your view on Gay Marriage. It is very similar to mine. While being a Christian, I have moral/religious objections to the idea, I don't see how it is something where my religious views should have any say.
What is the line? "Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's." Although Jesus stated this about taxes, I see where it has applications to everyday life. It is not as though the government would have forced homosexual marriage on non-homosexuals....so, I think we agree.
Just because most of the people of a certain state or the country believe a particular way, doesn't mean it is right. That is one of the reasons the Constitution was written the way it was. Certain rights should be given equally to all people no matter what the greater voice of the public wishes.
I do have one fear...
Say Gay Marriages are sanctioned by the state. I can see where there can implications far beyond. RIght now, because it is illegal (I assume that is the reason) religious organizations and institutions are allowed to deny someone entrance or membership based on their sexual leanings. WHile I think gay marriages should be allowed, I also think that if a religious group's doctrine expressly condemns such actions, they should be able to stay that way. I could see militant homosexuals marrying just so they can request admission to (just an example) the SOuthern Baptist Convention or Bible colleges for the express purpose of being denied access. that way it could be forced to the courts.
At that point, how can you deny entrance to a person based on a marriage sanctioned by the state? A liberal court could force such a thing and entire doctines could be altered by people taking pastorships who do not believe a certain way and only want to destroy the church.
I don't know how there is a balance....or if there can be.

I liked the show. I just wished there would be more of a balance. I think you should try to be more fair on the Democrats. The Republican party has its problems too. Our nation's problems right now are a result of the failed 2 party system. Obama hasn't even done anything yet and you're already calling him a socialist? I think Obama's fine. I don't see any reason to criticize Obama just now and I don't think you should try to dismiss Obama just like that.

I wasn't aware that Socialism was an insult...

I thought it was a Political Ideology...

A bad one, but not an insult

Conservatives like to use the term socialism to describe liberal ideology. They think of it as giving to the poor. A lot of conservatives think that the rich would be more productive than the rich so that's why they give more tax breaks to the rich. They view a tax break to the poor as a free handout and a freebie. They think that giving tax breaks to the poor is socialism. See, they just like to throw around the word socialism a lot, like Homer did. No offense to you Homer. But calling all liberal ideology is a fallacy, in that, not all liberals or Democrats share socialist views.

Yes, socialism is an ideology, but my point is that it's been given a bad name by conservatives and neocons over the last who knows how many years.

It's called the "Redistribution of Wealth" and it is a core Socialism Concept.

Why would you give a tax break to the poor?

The poor pay no taxes anyway and yet still receive all the same benefits, and more, than those that pay their way.

Percentiles Ranked by AGI

AGI Threshold on Percentiles

Percentage of Federal Personal Income Tax Paid

Top 1% - $388,806 - 39.89

Top 5% - $153,542 - 60.14

Top 10% - $108,904 - 70.79

Top 25% - $64,702 - 86.27

Top 50% - $31,987 - 97.01

Bottom 50% - <$31,987 - 2.99

Who Pays Taxes

As you can see, the "Poor" pay very little in taxes. Why would they need a break?

I have family that I suppose would be considered poor. They get 100% or their money back at tax time while I routinely pay 38% each year.

You are familiar with the correct definition of Neocon aren't you?

A Neocon is a Liberal masquerading as a Conservative.

It is simply misused on here so much that people get confused..

Neo = New

A true Conservative is quite different

Right, but Obama wants to give tax breaks to the middle class too, and we do pay our taxes.

So, yeah, I see your point.

I see what you're saying about neoconservatism. I was just using the definition which I think is true, which in the way I define neoconservatism, it is when one believes that we can spread Democracy to other nations and they'll love us. That's just what I've picked up on from the last 8 years or so.

If you read Obama's Tax Proposals you will see that it places a HUGE burden on the middle class...

In his proposal any business making 250K, (ie small business) the tax burden increases...

Also, what do you think happens when the Gov't increases taxes on ANY corporation? Do you actually believe that they, the CEO's, will just take a pay cut to pay the increase?

Of course not.

They will raise the price of their goods or services and that will directly impact the very people you want to help.

Or they will reduce their labor force. Again directly impacting those same people.

I know about Obama's tax policies. He just is only going to tax the corporations that don't make jobs in the US. He says he'll give tax breaks to the companies creating jobs in the US.

He also says he wants to lower the taxes on the poor AND the middle class.

He hasn't said anything about raising taxes on the rich.

Where do these conservative facts come from?

And I don't really find Rush Limbaugh or Shaun Hannity to be trustworthy news sources. They seem to be horribly biased.

I see that you try to have two opposing views on your show but this seemed to me like it was just the hour of liberal bashing. It was like a Rush Limbaugh show to me. I didn't see many opposing views in it. I would like to see a true American liberal be on the show with an opposing view because without one it seems like it's just a conservative bashing liberal show. Someone within America could be able to counter many of those points with real opposing views better than someone just watching the country, no offense. That's just my belief.
