Inmate Escapes German Jail in Box

A manhunt is under way in western Germany for a convicted drug dealer who escaped by mailing himself out of jail.

The 42-year-old Turkish citizen - who was serving a seven-year sentence - had been making stationery with other prisoners destined for the shops.

At the end of his shift, the inmate climbed into a cardboard box and was taken out of prison by express courier. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Leaving aside the issue of a criminal conviction you've got to give it to this guy: pure ingenuity.

I can't be certain, but I get the impression this has never been done before.

I remember watching a documentary about Alcatraz prison and being impressed by the planning & determination that had gone into escape attempts. But they were basically the result of a lot of hard thinking and hard work. This was simplicity itself.

If the simplest ideas are the best, this guy's a genius.

So it can be done. Those crazy Turkish drug dealers think of the darndest things. He must have been slimming down prior to shipping himself out.

Don't those boxes have tracking numbers. I would imagine that he busted out while in the delivery truck. What a gamble that paid off. Imagine is several cases of paper were stacked on top of his box.

Snake? SNAKE!? SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!


I suppose it must be amazing the kinds of things occur to you when you are locked up for hours at a time with nowhere to go and little or nothing to do.

I have to wonder what kind of shipping charge a box of that weight would be.

And just think how thick the couriers must have been, lunking out a box like that with no suspicions...

Nothing like a great caper.

Sort of reminds me of the Oceans 11,12, 13 movies.
