First pic of planet outside solar system

www.news.com.au
AFTER an eight-year quest for images, a US astronomer using a camera aboard the Hubble space telescope has snapped the first picture of a planet outside our solar system.

Astronomer Paul Kalas captured the first visible-light images of a planet some 25 light years from our solar system using a camera mounted on the Hubble telescope.

That is so cool. They are talking about this on the news right now...here is a link to another article and some pics.

BBC News

and here

CTV.ca

It seems that there are two seperate teams claiming discovery...doesn't really matter though, I think its more of an international team working together and now that they have something they all want credit for their countries.

Now that they've spotted one they will probably work on seeing it closer and closer, who knows what we might learn. The BBC article mentions that the system they are using can only detect planets Jupiter size and larger so there may well be some smaller planets there too.
