civilizations in remote antiquity did have have ways of doing things well that are lost to us now,for instance the farmers of northern Europe could raise far more wheat and other cereals per acre than anyone anywhere in the world is capable of today

The Inca could irrigate up mountainsides,with nothing but lowtech methods

the best of the old world systems kept everything simple and didn't use technology for much of anything when a simple lowtech solution would do
