I am not talking about a civil war. I am simply saying one country for the liberal left and the other country for the constitutionalists.

Wouldn't everyone be more happy that way?

It appears that I'm a little late to the discussion, but no, breaking the country up is not the correct course of action. Instead, we should just follow the Constitution as written and give the states much more power to make their own laws and regulations. That would give everyone 50 different sets of laws to choose from, and a person could then move to the state that most closely aligns to their beliefs. The federal government's primary role would be to conduct foreign policy and provide a loose framework for domestic policy.

The one-size-fits-all approach we have now doesn't really work for anyone.

That would not work. What about all the Americans that have a mortgage.
Not like you can just up and sell in this market.
Not to mention people that live where they do because they like the climate.

This would fail. You would have unrest big time!

We should throw all the liberals into mexico along with all the illegal aliens and build a huge wall with machingun towers and electrified razor wire. the liberals can have mexico and live with their friends.

The premise of this question is ridiculous, and as such, has no rational answer.

I think that this issue is based to much on the red/blue dichotomy. There are some states that may always swing democrat for any one but have large republican parties. Look at California, the subject of much ridicule. California is home to some of the largest liberal areas, most notably Berkley, San Fan, Hollywood, ect. However California put Ronald Reagan on the political scene and elected the Governator. There are millions of Republicans, Libertarians and others on the right, just as their are communists and anarchists in consertive states (watch the 2008 DNC riots if you don't believe me). If California were to be a "blue nation" it would be an appealing oversimplification of the political divide in America.

I was wondering how you would feel or what people’s thoughts would be on dividing the USA into two parts. I.e. Two countries. One country consisting of conservatives and the other country liberals.

It would be completely voluntary on which country you would want to live in. However, once there and your decision has been made you then become a citizen of that new country.

I assume the conservative country would pretty much go back to the constitution and the bill of rights while the liberal country could do what ever they want. Socialism?

I guess the big question would be on how to physically divide up the USA. Blue states and red states would not really work because some are spread out. In order to keep any one of the countries from being landlocked, I would propose splitting the country in equally in half giving the conservatives the North and the Liberals the South. Alaska to the Conservatives and Hawaii to the Liberals.

46% of the population voted for McCain while 53% voted for Obama, so it would be a pretty even split.

this is what started the civil war, and that was how the nation was divided.
the repubs just rammed law through the congress from 2000 to 2006, democrats DO NOT have to work with the repubs, they are just going to say no to everything anyway. i say treat the repubs just like they treated the demos from 2000 to 2006...as if they weren't there

I first posted this on 11-11-2008. I am wondering knowing what we know now if anyone is ready to revisit this topic.

Well, setting aside for a minute the horrible idea that you've created... The division makes no sense. You're going to make New York City conservative and Dallas, Texas liberal? What, you're just going to have everybody get up and trade?

The Conservatives get one of the country's largest wilderness reserves, the majority of oil production, the peaceful Canadian border, the vast majority of the country's economic and industrial centers? While the Liberals get a bunch of desert, a dinky island, and the spillover from the Mexican drug wars? Get real, dude.

I think it's also a bit ignorant for you to assume that liberals would immediately revert to socialism, while conservatives would be the bastion of civil liberties and Constitutional freedom. Last I checked, the Republicans are all about such goodies as forcing Christianity down everyone's throats, waging wars all over the planet, forcing sexual repression on society including banning homosexuality, and coming up with such wonderful ideas as the "Patriot Act" and the "War on Terrorism" and the "War on Drugs."

Now, far be it from me to look like I'm some Liberal Defender here. The Dems can go get effed too, for all I care. BUT! Don't be so sure that your party is the "good side" that sticks up for the Constitution in the face of Evil Socialism. The mere fact that you've taken a side and bought into all that buzz-word bull crap proves that you're just another brainwashed mule towing some evil tyrant's line.

This country doesn't need to be ripped into two. The two-party system has already done that, and it's not working out for us at all. It needs to be united and healed, not the other way around.
