I was wondering how you would feel or what people’s thoughts would be on dividing the USA into two parts. I.e. Two countries. One country consisting of conservatives and the other country liberals.

It would be completely voluntary on which country you would want to live in. However, once there and your decision has been made you then become a citizen of that new country.

I assume the conservative country would pretty much go back to the constitution and the bill of rights while the liberal country could do what ever they want. Socialism?

I guess the big question would be on how to physically divide up the USA. Blue states and red states would not really work because some are spread out. In order to keep any one of the countries from being landlocked, I would propose splitting the country in equally in half giving the conservatives the North and the Liberals the South. Alaska to the Conservatives and Hawaii to the Liberals.

46% of the population voted for McCain while 53% voted for Obama, so it would be a pretty even split.

Split the country in half, huh? I remember the story of King Solomon immediately upon reading your opinions.

Interesting how you think.

I think it would be useless. Considering Both Political are controlled by one side.

as to the question should we split the country in two? I say no. I think we should make each state it's own country. Then we could be the United Countries of America. What do you all think?

Huh? But who gets what half? Do you divide North and South or East and West? Let's just take baby steps first. Let us see what happens when California floats away first. That may just take care of the majority of the issues that we face daily.

my opinion it totally wouldnt work it would be like north and south korea
making more problems then solving, plus it would be full of housing problems plus, it just makes a nother barrier that one day will have to be taken down.
people could always just learn to live with each other. but thats just an opinion

In half would cause more problems. Consider one half with a gun ban the other without. All along the border of the gun-ban state thugs would be committing crimes willy nilly and the non gun-ban state would be blamed. This is happening currently with idiots like Bloomberg suing gun shops in Georgia for crimes committed in NY and MA setting up to blame NH for it's crime problems.

We need to be broken down into the smallest manageable unit possible. Some states would have to be broken up like California and NY. You cant have urban dependents in NYC running the state and you cant have them in LA or San Fran running all of CA. It's not right that the few who remain away from the high population densities, drug clinics, halfway houses and other scum attractants be subjected to living under the rule of those who do. There's is no justice in having some paranoid freak afraid of brown people in San Diego dictating to the rural and to the farmers in the rest of the state that they cannot own a certain rifle but this is the case all over the country.

That sounds great. We could call the new country "The Conservative States of America" !!! (CSA) Whoa!

I will be the new general of the CSA and maybe even president.....this time!

The sad thing is, you are talking about dividing the country into two parts.... By that, do you mean the TRUE definition of "Conservative", or the Neo-con agenda brought forth by "Conservatives" like Bush and Cheney?

I say it would be the best thing in the world, to divide the country into two. But let the Liberals have the Neo-Cons like Bush, McCain, etc.

True Conservatives want leaders like Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, or people like that.

You see, true Conservatives have been made into only a '3rd party'. A Taboo that cannot be allowed to be mainstream.

So yes, let's let the Liberals have the likes of Bush, Cheney, McLame, Obama, etc... And we, the Conservative side will even consider taking Kucinich, for being an honest man.

No way. How long do you think it would take before they'd be at war with each other? And I'm just a little too close, thank you very much...

Eh, only ~123million out of ~305million total population voted. I say we make a third country and toss all of them into it ;-)

Better yet - toss em all into the ocean!

(yeah, i know there's a lot of underage people in there, so what?)

I want to live in the half where "IT" is legal!

Actually, this could be a viable idea. Half the country hates the other half anyway, why not split into like-minded factions that are geographically linked?

I tend to think it would be an interesting experiment...one of the major problems I see is that the "Blue" states happen to have greater incomes than the "Red" states...so what I predict would happen is that the "Red" states would fall into complete and utter poverty, because, hell, what are they for? Low taxes, not wasting money on "liberal" things, like welfare, social security, public education, infrastructure, etc. Everyone would be left to fend for themselves, because that’s what good Conservatives do, pull themselves up from their boot-straps, or rely on the generosity of their church, who would have taken control of the education system...

Meanwhile in the "Blue" states, you'd still have the division between the corporate-class and the rest of society...but at least you'd probably have more left-wing politicians in power attempting to put things in place, such as environmental legislation, anti-monopoly policies, socialized healthcare, etc...until the corporations get them on side, because after all, there would be fewer to pay off...

THEN, at some point and time, the Red States would try a land grab against the Blue States, because, after all, they have God and Guns on their side...two things which those Secular, Atheist, Liberal Commie Blue States don't have on their side.

Clearly, I've though about this far too much....its a fun game though...

/sarcasm

In all seriousness though...I do think that another level of governance, creating more regional autonomy, could be useful, because America is very divided.

War would break out over which side gets stuck with Washington , the federal reserve, and the corrupt elite massas who have turned America into a plantation. For the first time, Californians are praying that the techtonic plates separate them from the rest of the U.S.. At the rate things are going people will be sneaking into Mexico.

What about those of us who totally support the Constitution AND gay marriage and abortion rights, too? Unfortunately, or fortunately, actually, not everyone fits into your perception of "conservative" and "liberal"...

I have a better idea. Why don't we embrace tolerance, acceptance and the idea that we are all different, but can live peacefully together? Why don't we accept the founding documents, get religion OUT of government and actually live by the Constitution? With all of us being equal and having the same rights? What about a democratic Republic?

Why don't we stop worrying so much about who our neighbor is sleeping with or married to and be more concerned about feeding and housing the homeless in our country?

The real issue is that there really isn't a "Blue State" per se. The blues are centered primarily around the large metropolitian cities across the US of A. Take Florida for example....Blue is primarily the Broward/Dade county areas (Palm Beach to Miami), the Jacksonville area, the Orlando area, etc. The rest of Florida is red.

I hereby propose the "Great Rockie Purchase" whereby we give everything west of the Rock mountains to blue and keep the rest.

3 states please.

Reserve one for us constitutional libertarians. The other two can do whatever the hell they want by themselves and to each other.

The liberals can go and take their heavy taxes, welfare economy and disarmament; the conservatives can go and take their heavy taxes, frivolous spending on corporate pandering and social interference. Libertarians will stand rock steady in the midst, with true freedom in every sphere for every man.

Nice idea, but unlikely to occur. Thanks to democracy replacing constitutionality; the majority will always control the minority.

I see a lot of concern that the liberal country would not be able to defend themselves, but they would have their own armed forces. I don't see this as an issue.

When I spoke of a conservative country I was referring to true conservatism. Constitution Party/Ron Paul type ideologies.

Our country is headed in two separate directions. The difference between the views of the liberals and conservatives is very drastic and the population almost equally split.

It may be the time for something like this.

Wouldn’t the liberals be happy to finally have it the way they want it?

I appreciate your honesty and sincerity but as far as I know Utopia is nothing more than a band from the late 70"s. I have yet to see it on a map.

California is probably the closest example that you will find. So, if Cali. does float off into its own island the new nation of Utopia will be born. Problem solved.
If it were only that easy...

What about families who have people on both sides? Should we split them? Or do they have to pick one and go with it?
